surprised and glad for highland fields, or grass ruins i should say, since i didn't think that really had what it took to win there. also very sorry to wretched automatons, it's a song that i feel it's fair to say even with this result has proven itself as a worthy song of the original nier soundtrack that people can actually acknowledge here now, regardless of how much further desire goes (or doesn't), since i think it's pretty clear that praise was going to both songs in that match. maybe i'm biased who knows lol

Look i was disappointed you'd give an example for a series you've never even played, i was more snarky than i needed to be but you're still not in the right. Yes, they're (mostly) not actually in the titles but when they're generally presented like, say, this, can you blame me?

even the ones that didn't follow this practice early on still categorised them in the game files as like TH02, TH03, TH06 etc. About the only fan intervention that happens with it is it being classified as a series when ZUN's insisted on describing it as a project instead lol

Pleased to see the support for desire so far, it just randomly hit my recommendations while in the middle of making my last list with cako, and frankly it was the kind of song that i felt had just captured my attention by chance, especially as i learned the game it was from was a known entity in the community, yet it was clearly far from a preferred pick from it. Honestly really surprised it managed to get in, and even more surprised it can (for now) hold its own against one of Nier's songs.

i actively didn't like the bad anime writing and plot presentation in the demo so this is still probably not for me but otherwise yeah definitely seemed like a good game (even if, for its own originality, card systems being integrated into games of other genres is has become so common to the point of total oversaturation already. like i feel like give it a year and people probably won't be as kind on it as they are now...)

figured i'd mention that new game from the genetos dev which was a unity game about opening doors did indeed release and i played it.

it was kind of alright, a simple and basic collectathon with a quirky, motivational and somewhat emotional (but untranslated) plot, still decently memorable nonetheless

tbh yeah it's surprisingly rare to see, largely because series without any numbers are rare in the first place (and many of those that do also have spinoffs which makes it more awkward). stuff like ace attorney doesn't even really count thanks to the japanese titles...

as is often the case, i think the real reason it's never happened is because they never sold well (and it wasn't even a square ip originally) and the devs probably aren't connected to the company any longer, so it's just not on the table, much as an hd2d style would clearly work for a new "mainline" entry

i'm glad the slightly lesser of the kirbs was the one to draw subahibi since i'd have felt pretty disappointed if i had to immediately pick between roche or blizz and it (and city trial is "less expendable" and stage 5 would've just been bodied and made it even more awkward >_>)

the best of this year's FEs that got in vs the... i guess best of this year's twewys? but they're all weak picks. i feel like i was being more generous to apex when i scored it mostly because of how memorable its use of its motif is, and i'm not really that into that motif generally speaking... so, sharply defying my scores here. i doubt i'd usually pick apex over any songs over like, 7.7 anyway, which is a good sign that this is just a case of overranking

i slept pretty hard on splatoon's less covered styles for a long time... a pseudo-pastiche of PMD (but weirder) is so far from the kind of music i associate with splatoon. shame raiden was what had to draw it, though it's the one that i don't want to do well anyway since it was clearly not raiden fans that pushed for it this time anyway so oh well. shame deo's been strategically meming dunno so people want to vote for it even less but if it all means tractatus has any shot at retiring instead i'm fine with it. the meta

i do wonder though if they intended for grinding to still be a real focus in a (hopefully would-be) pick up and play mobile title. like for as egregious as the many times beyond illegal systems here seem to be, they're centred around focuses for core diablo but not for what (most) mobile games structure themselves around and diablo has good core actual gameplay unlike an average exception/gacha. this is ultimately still a spinoff to introduce mass audiences to the series for the first time and quite possibly not actual core fans, and also probably made to fund development on future projects like a diablo 4 which they probably need as much of as they are manipulating out of consumers if we're being honest here after the long development on it and well... blizzard things lol. so yeah idk i'm not sure either way honestly, it's slimy and awful but maybe not literally "reptile game made by reptiles made of 100000 dollar bills". or maybe it is and they just decided to come up with the most disgusting monetisation system ever conceived since vtuber superchats out of spite against humanity and/or vtubers for their lack of papery reptile skin. either or

limited run showcase was very fun, mega64 truly nailed the aesthetic and the actual game lineup couldn't have complemented it any better. keen for blade runner

BVIG was alright, games themselves were pretty poor but it was good to see this small indie initiative having developed out of what they started with. this is basically a BLM indie equivalent of the asobu doujin/indie initiative in japan with how they approach the promotion of indie developers through monthly interview streams (combined of course with financial support), iirc given who runs it i'm sure it's not a coincidence either. The one unfortunate thing is that i don't think mass audiences are really ready for this kind of format, much as I want this kind of thing to supersede E3

uploadvr was fine, this feels like even more of a "vr cult-only" kind of thing than the one from last e3, can't believe how much of that was presented as though they assumed that all the viewers would already be familiar with it everything there. also i really don't want to be that kind of guy who is only interested in seeing more familiar things, but among us vr actually looked kind of ok which surprised me

hopefully will catch up tomorrow (later today, after sleep). friend was only free super late in the evening today so progress was unfortunately limited

oppo a5, which was pretty much the cheapest possible "decent" smartphone here about a year ago (was about $200 nzd then). honestly exceptional for a budget phone

checked out a few of the ones so far briefly with the aforementioned friend now

netease was a solid D- (only reason it doesn't get an F is because I liked the trailer to that Clover Theater game in the japanese version. same developer that published warship girls (the og kancolle clone) in japan which i thought was neat, been a fan of them since they also tried making their own separate kancolle clone that was kinda ok actually (it was very unpopular and died out quickly though))

finally finished off day 2 of indie live expo >_>. somehow i've gotten fully acclimatized to the english announcers now, was laughing more than i reasonably should've tbh

how is the announcer for the gundam showcase a real person. BO2 still the best gundam

rewatched the pokemon, the maybe co-op aspects are neat to think about

match 1 gives me unusually similar vibes given their different approaches. the road has the advantage due to its almost authenticity though, that totally is easygoing radio music and i'm fine with that today.

difficult to not just antivote snow in summer 1.22 because of how much of a pain it was to make sense of its structure to (hopefully) determine how it looped (maybe). i bet it's actually longer than the video in reality. either way, it's facing a type of music i enjoy a lot, and a fine example of it. also sorry for my totally phoned in genre selection for nier, i didn't really expect it to be picked

i just haven't really been feeling jfk. like it's fine and above average for sure and even does things i like maybe more than all the other songs today but it just doesn't stir super strong emotions for me effectively enough because it's kind of just barely too "normal". i think it's because its instumentation makes it feel like waiting music for some hotline, and it also feels... tv drama soundtrack-ish in some parts. by contrast, that other nominated song like a ceo just demonstrated how unmistakably "videogame music" it was and felt like it could easily be in a different soundtrack despite otherwise carrying over jfk's lounge characteristics. in saying that, it's also difficult for back to rise to exactly win me over. i respect how well it does what it goes for, but it's not my default style and today i'm just not quite as disposed towards it as i was when i last edited my ratings.
