Uh...that's some circular logic. "Well, THESE jobs didn't require it, but the one you had was...so it wasn't forced". He literally said the Washington State government required it, that's forcing a vaccine on their employees, and if you don't say yes, you lose your livelihood. Some government jobs have a lot of benefits, especially if you have children.

I still can't get into Canada because I'm unvaxxed, and I've lost a lot of money in my travel business because of that fact. Again, it's their government, they can do what they want, but to say that it wasn't forced is just wrong.

So to be clear, you are taking issue with the word "force"? As the government and employers "force" many other things (wearing pants, not punching people in the face, having vehicle inspections, etc.) - why do you feel this is "wrong"?

Who cares? The vaccine doesnt stop you from getting the disease, it doesnt stop you from passing the disease into others. Saying no to this vaccine is not at all like denying the efficacy of the MMR or polio or small pox vaccines.

Were you aware that the vaccine (like many others) *reduces* the risk of catching the disease, the risk of severe symptoms, and the risk of transmission?

Seems to be mental health issues. People unable to cope with life so they decide to go out and murder as many people as they can. We should be trying to help people like these instead of pointing fingers at the GOP like theyre poisoning the water.

Interesting - do you have something to back that up? Everything I've found shows mental illness pretty equally spread. While I agree that we should be trying to help people, shouldn't we point fingers when GOP like Abbot actively cut funds to mental health?

Sorry I don't think I was very clear in my last post. I wasn't disagreeing with the final number approximating non US physician outcome, I was asking how that number could reflect starting without debt. Something like "Would you be willing to give up a third of your salary if it meant universal healthcare and starting with zero personal educational debts"?

Beyond the "Trump continues not paying people for their services" angle, the fact that Fox was reporting on this was humorous (though I know there are Fox branches that still do a actual impartial journalism).

They're not factoring in student loans, but only because healthcare reform is rarely explicitly bundled with education reform. So unless we're proposing a "drastically change everything all at once" policy, it's just the unfortunate reality that healthcare reform by itself would require people like coffee to take a 60% pay cut on top of a large tax increase, at no change to cost of living, to make things more like the EU.

USUALLY these discussions are purely hypothetical so I was curious to hear from the doctor's mouth directly whether that's acceptable or not.

Ahh - I *believe* she said somewhat recently that she had paid off all of her school debt (was understandably excited), which I'm sure would affect her/a person's answer. Your description of doctor's wages in other countries doesn't seem quite as accurate? Again IF she wanted to answer, it's definitely not something she has to speak to...

The transition from young Bruce to adult Batman who is a scientist/detective/martial artist/stealth expert might actually be less believable than most fantastic origins. You can suspend disbelief about finding an artifact or being dosed with a serum or radiation or whatever...I bet you can't imagine dedicating 20 years of your life to a singular goal and learning all that shit, even if you had the wealth to do it.

I was never really interested in comic books/super heroes except for Batman, and I'd say the bolded part is drew me in - the idea of someone so mentally disciplined and having so much self control.

Coffee, there's something I'm curious about, but my question is a bit personal so I'm going to try to keep this as details-ambiguous as possible, and I ask this with the utmost respect for you and your profession, and ALSO as someone who believes the US healthcare system is a fucked up mess: As a doctor, how much of a pay cut would you realistically accept in exchange for a shift to a more EU-centered style of medicine?

From what I can tell, outside of the US the second most highly paid doctors are German doctors, and they make roughly half of what US doctors of the exact same profession pay. In the UK, they make roughly a third of what a US physician makes (again, on average). As I understand it, US doctors are largely on the hook for paying for their own malpractice insurance, which is crazy expensive, so in terms of net difference I'm sure it's less than half, but let's be practical and say it's 40%. Would you cut your pay by 60% tomorrow if it meant a different, more globally available system?

Feel free to be as vague as possible because I understand that letting CE know (even roughly) what you make is a terrible idea, but I'm very curious what your perspective is as someone who would be directly impacted by a large shift in the industry and whether you feel like your peers would stand with you on the issue.

EDIT: and if you'd rather not answer, that's fine too, although I'd appreciate it if you'd at least say you chose not to answer rather than just ignoring the question, but really whatever you're comfortable saying.

A bit tangential to your tangential question - are your figures accounting for not having to pay for medical school? German doctors making half of US might be closer if you take out the medical school loan costs...

based on post 9/11 legislation with covid as the "national emergency" while mask and vaccine restrictions are nearly completely gone in the usa. the biden admin knows their polling numbers are in the toilet along with the democrats forecast to lose the house and senate this upcoming voting season. it's transparent what the motives are. the precedent will be set going forward that voting for this politician or that politician may wipe out some student debt, regardless of productivity of their degrees, and colleges will respond by escalating their tuitions ever higher as its already seen with pell grants. this is a moral hazard.

So you ARE saying the bill/law should not have been passed and we should have stayed with the status quo? You expressed your concern about the bill but I want to make sure I understand your conclusion - your concern outweighs any positive effects of the law?

That seems different from your starting post, which seemed more "why would anybody do X?" and then repeated keeping a good credit score as the reason to do/not do anything. But for your clarification - how exactly are you defining "be sure you can pay it back"? If you take out 50k in loans for a degree that starts out at 200k but never "be sure" - get injured/the demand for that field drops/etc. What if you are "pretty sure" you will be able to pay it back?
