How exactly are you defining "gun culture" to say it's equal in the US and Sweden? Number of political ads supporting gun rights? Number of images of guns in media?

Sorry watched it last night and then got really drunk.

Let me just tell you that even my friends, who are seasoned horror flick viewers, were not only frightened like crazy but even they thought it was really good. I had to cover my face because the movie gets severely intense. I expected more from the story imo, but it at least does a good job subverting one expectations. Come watch the movie if you want to be scared the fuck out.

Shit was good as fuck

I saw it after a friend told me about it and how he heard it subverted expectations - we saw it yesterday and I was slightly dissapointed... it was definitely unsettling and had a few good jump scares but I think I was expecting something more like Cabin in the Woods... I don't regret watching it but would have waited to see it at home

I had seen a lot of BTAS already by the time I started watching Gargoyles so the reformed villain archetype wasn't as new to me as the "master planner"/"true neutral" archetype demonstrated so well by Zanatos

Absolutely, speaking as someone not typically into comic books, just ones in-universe of the cartoons I watch.

If I recall correctly it was referred to as "the real season 3" by the creator when Disney went ahead and made the third season with the weaker animation and much weaker writing (I still liked it because I like Gargoyles anything)

Thanks! I never watched the last season - I think it had a new antagonist group?

I remember the artstyle was pretty similar to the show (which is a big reason why I would read any comic book) and that it featured Goliath and Elisa actually kissing and discussing their relationship possibility.

Do you recommend reading it?

My biggest problem with 3 was the plot point of them capturing the alien and it being released by one of the prisoners.. the first two movies showed human error/ineptitude allowing the alien (and nature in a way) to wreak havoc.. why make it the result of a character actively deciding to do so?

A) That's "a good thing" for companies, not necessarily society, a bit of a distinction
...and a good thing for customers of those companies

So you believe what's good for companies and their customers should be the definition of "good"?

B) So if something was created for one purpose, it should forever hold that purpose? Even if it's being used for other purposes because of necessity?
If the company can't adapt to changing market conditions, let it die.

Once again you avoided answering the question by bringing up something largely tangential. For the second time, are you saying that "if something was created for one purpose, it should forever hold that purpose? Even if it's being used for other purposes because of necessity?"

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/09/health/abortion-restrictions-texas/index.html

A month after college graduation, Kailee and Cade married in Marble Falls, Texas. They're both proud to be native Texans -- Kailee's family has lived there for generations and Cade's ancestors are among Texas' "Old Three Hundred," the original families that joined Stephen Austin to settle the area in the 1800s.

At the time, the DeSpains were both passionately anti-abortion.

"I was just your quintessential pro-life Texan," Kailee, 29, told CNN in a recent interview.
"I was raised in central Texas by extremely Republican parents and grandparents," Cade, 31, said. "One hundred percent pro-life."

A year after they were married, Kailee miscarried at 16 weeks and was hospitalized for severe complications, including blood clots and infection. It was one of three miscarriages she had in the early years of marriage.

"It made me realize that pregnancy can be dangerous," she said. "It made me think of my little sisters, and I wanted them to be able to have a choice if they ever had to go through something like that."

Last September, when a restrictive anti-abortion law took effect in Texas, Kailee pled on Facebook for people to contact their elected representatives to protect abortion rights.

It really shouldn't come down to every individual person having to almost fucking die to realize that abortion rights are important. They had to drive 10 hours to a clinic in New Mexico to have an abortion because the pregnancy put her own life at risk.

It really shouldn't!!! And not everybody in Texas can drive ten hours...

If you look at "women vs men", women make less (that's where the magical 70-80 cents per dollar number comes from)
https://money.cnn.com/2015/04/13/news/economy/equal-pay-day-2015/

If you look at "women vs men in the same career" women make less (sometimes), but it's closer
https://money.cnn.com/2015/04/13/news/economy/equal-pay-day-2015/

If you look at "women vs men in the same career at the same level" it's even closer and the gap is usually explained by women quitting to raise a child or returning after a career gap
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/13/upshot/the-gender-pay-gap-is-largely-because-of-motherhood.html

If you look at "women vs men in the same career at the same level with the same job experience" women still technically make less, but because men work more overtime
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/05/25/gender-pay-gap-facts/

https://stats.bls.gov/opub/ted/2015/time-spent-working-by-full-and-part-time-status-gender-and-location-in-2014.htm

If you look at "women vs men in the same career at the same level with the same experience working the same hours" the gap completely vanishes.
https://www.cnbc.com/2015/09/15/gender-wage-gap-narrows-for-new-women-college-grads-fed-research.html

Any statistic that argues anyone "overall" makes less than anyone else is selling you a steaming plate of shit because it's blending low and high paying jobs, full and part time jobs, careers with and without gaps, overtime and no overtime, etc all together in a meaningless way.

Interesting breakdown, thanks!

There is no gender pay gap , men make more money because on average they work longer hours , more dangerous jobs , and more high performance jobs like being a doctor or an engineer. They are over represented in high paying fields , and that is with free will accounted for. Same way women are over represented in teaching and nursing.

Honestly this was debunked so long ago and so many times I'm surprised people still believe it. Plus it's illegal in the US to pay women less so even if it happens they have legal recourse to sue .

Quick question, have you ever watched Karate Kid or Cobrai Kai? If so, the karate tournament is an example of fights being point based. You basically get points for hitting certain parts of the body like the head and chest with your punches or kicks. You also get points if you do a takedown and strike them at the chest. You get punishments for illegal moves like elbowing or kicking someone in the groin.

Ahh thanks - is karate in general based on "points"? Like are you taught to value specific moves over others and place an emphasis on form?
