I never even considered that Harry made poor use of the invisibility cloak. The restricted section of the library wouldn't interest him because he can barely manage normal unrestricted spells. Spying on his enemies would be dangerous business because the cloak just makes you invisible, it doesn't protect you from people hearing you or keep you from running into things or otherwise being discovered. And spying on adult wizards would be a terrible idea. As a student, how sure could you be that the invisibility cloak really would protect you against someone who had mastered magic?
