Really good movie overall but I didn't care for her arc. Everyone told her she couldn't be a hunter and she proved them right by totally beefing it every time she tried to hunt a dangerous animal. Then, after tearing through the best warriors her tribe has, as well as dozens of frogs, the Predator forgets it's the smartest and most formidable hunter the universe has ever seen and kills itself. Doesn't really feel like she did anything to earn that kill.

It wasn't even really a trend. It happened, like, 4 times.

You are coming to the issue of the genre: it really isn't one. The games universally are a couple of extremely common gameplay/narrative pieces that are "tied" by what the person playing feels is right rather than any gameplay or story mechanic.

It's not technically a genre but there are enough things tied together for it to be a consistent description. It's like immersive sim. No one really knows what it means but you know it when you see it and there's enough of a spiral outward of "definitely not immersive sim but, like, kind of" for it to be a useful term.

Exactly. The ideas of interconnected maps, power ups, and gates/keys are so broad it feels ridiculous to lump them in with such a strictly defined genre but there's no other word. Search action definitely ain't it. You would be an insane person to call the Tomb Raider reboot Metroidvania games but they check the boxes, to a lighter degree than some others.

And while we're at it, what's the deal with action adventure games? That is such a meaningless non-description. And why isn't there an umbrella term for melee focused games like there is for shooters? You can't tell me there weren't people as anal about labels as me pitching something over the years.

This genre, in its strictest of definitions, has become pretty popular recently due to a slew of indie games. But there are a ton of other games that fit the mold of large interconnected maps with a focus on backtracking, with powers and upgrades used for combat as well as for gates to a greater or lesser degree. Control is about the closest thing to a Metroidvania you can get without being a retro 2d platformer, but it feels weird calling it that because it very clearly is not really a Metroidvania. Should there be a broader name for games with these components, with true Metroidvania's being a small part, or do we just call every game with these systems a Metroidvania?

How many times is this exact topic going to be posted?

All of his character arc had made perfect sense but, since he's had half the appearances of the other characters, it feels like it jumps around a lot more. He never got his own solo stories to play around in so they've had to fill in the gaps as they went with the bigger movies. And for some reason people can't put the pieces together unless they're shown explicitly what's happening. I'll agree that him becoming a goofster recently is annoying but it's not as bad as thor for example and I think we'll see the big guy at full strength soon enough.

The biggest factor is just common sense. Looking at a single snapshot of today may seem bleak, but that's really if you're only looking for negative stuff. The world is on a constant positive swing and gets better every day. Don't focus on the negative. Drop the doomer trend. Media only reports on negative stuff because that's what gets them money. Unironically don't let the media control your mind. Realize that that's not all there is in the world. People are smart and we always, eventually, find the solution to any problem. The world is better now than it ever has been before and will only continue to get better.

Well, at least she has being a wizard to look forward to. Maybe that will take the edge off.

This whole event really makes me want a medieval starship troopers. I imagine bugs dropping in during the battle of Vienna and the Europeans and ottomans have to team up. You put Farcry 3 in the wrong poll again.

Overall it was very enjoyable but I never thought Taika was a good fit for Thor. Ragnarok is fantastic but it's not really what I wanted. This took it farther in the wrong direction. Again, good but not what I wanted.
