I believe they should be. I'm just asking if any of you think that they shouldn't be.

Only minimum wage for a 40 hour week. (if they have any outstanding student debt, it should be applied there first)

All other pay that they would have gotten should be focused on giving scholarships to folx that cant afford schooling.

you really believe this? what about big time football or basketball players that bring in millions to the univ?

Think of how many students that extra cash could benefit. They could help so many under privileged peoples get a full ride and higher education.

I don't think that they should be paid by the school or NCAA, but they should be able to monetize their own image if they are able.

Paying non pros is only a discussion in sports dominated by black athletes.

Don't they get their tuition covered though?

yeah, isn't that the rule, right now? they can make money off of their likeness. That was mostly what i meant, though.

I don't know, tbh. What's the argument for both sides? That they already get "paid" by going to college for free? They are the ones bringing in all the money to the schools, so they should be paid. Are those the main sides? Anything else?

Their $300,000 education especially at prestigious schools being free is more than enough.

They should make student worker wages to support themselves, at minimum.

I think that was a good change.

I'm still torn on whether or not they should be able to compete at collegiate and pro events at the same time.

Being paid a wage is fine, being allowed to sign advertising deals with corporations while still on a college team, no.

Yep which is why michael phelps was never able to swim for Michigan.

They should absolutely get paid, but then we should also eliminate sports scholarships, priority class registration for the Athletics department, it being a factor in admissions, and every other perk that is currently granted to an athlete at a university other than pay.

Athletes currently get a hell of a lot right now, so it's always a little frustrating when people pretend like they receive nothing from the University because they're not getting a paycheck. I definitely agree they should get paid, and they should be able to market their likeness, but then all the other special treatment has to end.

i don't know. I don't honestly care. But now that I think of it, people pay to go see a game. They pay money to the school, and the school makes more money teh better the team and the better the results. These athletes should be compensated for making the school look good.

This isn't giong to go away. Schools will do whatever it takes to get great athletes onto their rosters. This is a huge money maker for them.

its not like every kid applying to college gets them. Only the elite of athletes are able to get these perks, If they worked hard to get to that point in their lives, then let the colleges fight to get them in.

Ideally every student athlete would be paid but I'm not sure how feasible that is. At the very least students in minor sports should be allowed to get jobs in the off season. The integrity of college sports isn't being tarnished by a track and field athlete getting a part time job when they're not playing.

Maybe now but for the longest time it wasn't.
