I think the real takeaway is that people in general suck. A large friend group or romantic and sexual success don't mean a thing. I have relatives who do well for themselves socially, but on the inside are cold, dead husks.

Right but none of that is worth anything to me if I can't be happy. I truly don't care about other people's feelings or who would 'miss' me. Really don't. This life is not meant to be lived alone, and I want no part in it if that's going to be how it is. I hope others can do what you say, find passion, live for their loved ones, etc. My personal happiness is not being alone, no matter how successful I may be.
Needing to be happy is perfectly normal, but having a girlfriend won't magically make you happy. Nothing does that, really. You ought to try and see a professional about these issues so you can work towards being a better, happier version of yourself. I'm not saying that to be cliche either.

Do y'all bring anything to the table?
In a giant world full of single woman, where they are the choosers, wat do you bring to them?
Women want financially security and to be protected. They want someone who can fight for them.
Not all women mind you. But the ones I meet want that. When I didn't give a shit in my younger days I heard time and time again, " I don't know if your worth fighting for."
It was a wake up call.
Love comes to everyone.
Don't give up hope.
This is like the opposite of being an incel. Instead of hating women because they won't date you, you instead portray them as prizes that need to be fought for and won. Men and women are both just people. Relationships are built on trust and compatibility. A wife or girlfriend is a life partner, not a trophy or a princess.

Stable diffusion is the current best AI tool for generating images, and there is a new preview of the technology out with a web interface. Actually, there are at least two: one for generating new images based on a prompt, and one that generates new images based on old ones and a prompt. It takes a little bit to generate a batch of images, and you may have to keep trying due to demand. It also does block out generated images (and presumably prompts) that violate safety guidelines.

It's still awesome, though! Check it out if you have time:

Were you a fully grown person when you did this? If not, then no you weren't. People choose to have children, choose to keep them, and have more fully formed brains and control of their emotions. It is the responsibility of a parent to parent responsibly. Don't try and accept part of the blame for someone physically trying to hurt you. Suppose your mother had an argument with a coworker and did the same thing to them that she did to you. That'd be some solid jail right there. TopicHow concerning is to have someone claim your email address?
darkmaian23
08/26/22 5:53:29 AM

A year or so ago, I signed up for an email address on mailbox.org because I wanted to have a second address to sign up for some stuff. I actually paid a low amount for a year. I grew unhappy with the service because there was a huge lag in getting emails (a password reset for Discord took longer to get there than the window you have to put in the code) and the service seemed to go down a lot. I got a notice saying that I needed to pay up or lose the account, but it kept glitching out and wouldn't let me log in. Then the account was deactivated and made available to claim again. I tried to do that, but it says that the email is already taken (it's random and weird---who would want it?). I can't tell if it's still mine or if someone took it.

Any advice? It's connected to a Discord account I used to try out the service and a mailing list. That's all---never got around to do anything fancy. But I did at one point pay for the account and send my primary email address a test message. I haven't gotten any weird charges or strange emails, and I don't really know if anyone actually claimed the account (customer service can't give out information because they allegedly can't tell for privacy reasons that I ever owned the account).

I probably should have transferred my stuff off the account when I first became unhappy with it, but I assumed it was a temporary hiccup. Who would expect so many problems with e-mail in 2022?

Also his wife was really careless.
Most people are unaware of the level of automated scanning that is being done by large tech companies to proactively assist law enforcement. If they are aware, there is an assumption that reasonable precautions are being taken and that the folks behind this are generally acting in good faith. The photos were taken and shared with the wife and the doctor for a legitimate medical purpose. She was probably in a hurry and thought nothing of it.

I wonder how this will negatively affect the father going forward? Will the police investigation show up on a background check? Is he on a list somewhere? What about his wife? The doctor or nurse who asked for the photo? If they can afford to hire a lawyer, can these records be suppressed or expunged? Just interacting with police in this way with no criminal charges can mean that you are in for all kinds of trouble.

Nobody knows how often any given tech companies scans your data, what the scans look for, how they work, what gets scanned, or what the results are. The most you see given is a report of how much material gets reported to agencies like NCMEC. It tells you nothing about how often those reports are wrong, how much of it is pure garbage, or anything like that. Lawmakers in the EU want to make it mandatory for tech companies to scan everything, all the time, for abuse material, grooming, and it is designed to be able to be used generally for other crimes too. People like to use the voluntary scanning as proof that nobody minds and that it is purely good for society. I'm glad the negative aspects are being talked about openly because there are serious downsides to faceless corporations using automated tools with no oversight to voluntarily perform law enforcement activity.

Protecting children is important, but how we do that needs some serious rethinking. But we won't get that in the current political climate, especially not with the UK and the EU both looking to crackdown on the Internet and privacy massively. It's kind of hard to understate just how insidious this upcoming legislation is.

Because our place in the world is largely arbitrary, and at any time through no fault of your own you could join the ranks of the homeless. Yes, we can plan and do our best to nudge our lives in a positive direction, but doesn't the lack of certainty scare you? I especially don't like it combined with the relative political instability in the United States and the continuing rise of inflation.

The US is full of homeless people living on the street or in their cars. Full of people living 5 to a one bedroom apartment, of people living in abusive situations they can't escape. A significant portion of the population in the United States are a couple of paychecks away from homelessness themselves. In 2018, it was estimated that nearly half the world's population lives on less than $6 a day. I don't know a ton of successful or upper-middle class people, but of those that I do know, I know a single person who became successful on their own merits. Everyone else got significant help from family, friends, or in-laws. But in their minds, they did it all themselves and are self-made successes. Nobody ever helped them, and if you need help, it's because you are lazy or stupid or didn't do X, Y, and Z that they attribute their success to (it's even better when they didn't do those things themselves).

Sometimes, I just don't know what to think about my world or my place in it. Does anyone else get disturbed by these thoughts?

How "major" is major?
This is purely a hypothetical. You can state ranges for different behaviors. Like maybe you wouldn't turn yourself in for drugs, but would if you killed someone in self-defense. I'm personally most interested in whether or not folks would ever turn themselves in, because I see so many Reddit posts where people not involved in criminal investigations think the sensible and mature thing to do is admit guilty and take the time for most crimes. I think it's all bluster, personally.

What do you do?

For whatever reason, I've been seeing a lot of topics about crime on Reddit. It seems a lot of folks think for serious crimes, the mature, adult thing to do is turn yourself in and face justice because laws and the justice system are somehow just because the people who wrote them and oversee them are people who were democratically elected. You even see this for more minor stuff like drugs. The older I get, the more I disagree with this notion. I think the real adult response is to try and keep yourself out of prison regardless of you what you did wrong, and if you have the capacity for morality and self reflection, to try and do better next time or make up for what you did wrong. As far as we know, we only get one life, and nobody is going to look out for you but yourself.

I also disagree strongly that the America's laws, courts, or prisons are in any way just. Lawmakers are mostly old, rich, privileged white men who would not reasonably expect to be bound by the laws they themselves write. We choose them--in the US at least--from a pool of mostly curated wealthy, well-connected people presented to us by two powerful political parties. Laws are written to appease special interests and the ideas and morals of said lawmakers. Police have the freedom to investigate or not investigate cases as they see fit. Sheriffs are an elected position, and while morality might be important to some, so is reelection. Prosecutors are also elected and need high numbers when seeking reelection and have no particular incentive to be just. If you do get a trial (without having a ridiculous number of charges added as a penalty), judges also tend to be elected, and in some areas don't even need to have any legal qualifications. Some districts have an appallingly high win rate for the prosecution, to the point that trials couldn't be seen as fair unless you assumed basically everyone brought before the courts was guilty.

Well, what do you think?
