Never played this one, got pretty tired of Gears after Judgment. One day!

I wouldn't either (it doesn't even make top 5 for me). I do also think it gets a little one note in spots musically even if Swift's lyrical writing never really falters here. That's where I think the sister album follow-up Evermore shines even brighter because there's more texture and vibrant musical soundscapes than Folklore.

Don't forget the Arrowverse did something pretty similar beforehand in their Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation.

But yeah it was definitely a nice love letter, that's for sure and I still appreciated it for what it was.

I watched it two days ago. Good movie for sure but I was pretty surprised at how generic and nonsensical the actual plot was. It's not really a movie you're really meant to think on for too long I feel.

It's kind of a shame The Lakes isn't included in the original tracklist.

Hellblade is an interesting journey into the mind, and one that reflects on its players, if you let it, that is. Senua is as much her own character as she is your avatar; from the start I was enthralled with the way the voices swirled around my head and ears (headphones are a MUST), and though I wouldn't compare my personal issues with being anywhere near psychosis, it still instantly reminded me of the anxious "voices" I can often feel when I'm about to do anything. So, in that regard, the game instantly connected with me, and the voices were relentless. This is easily the game's strongest suit, and thought it may feel like it would get old after awhile, well to me that's pretty much the point. "Helheim" is the representation of Senua's inner horror and turmoil, this inability to escape herself, her own mind, and her own grief. In this sense, I quite like the SH2 comparison - a very similar set-up, with a slight role reversal. James and Senua both suffer from a certain delusion that drives their quest and motivations going forward - the thinking that their loved one can be brought back from the dead. No matter how much the world or monsters push back against them, on they march. And I like that, because as much as Hellblade is an auditory assault on the senses, it can also be a visual one too. I especially like how the game goes on and plays around more with light and shadow, sometimes casting full fights in near-total darkness, like with Garm, or how fire can absolutely engulf the landscape around you - there's hostility everywhere you turn, in your mind or otherwise and it's good the game keeps up the pressure. Senua's character is better portrayed through these moments than her actual story however. I'll get back to that, but speaking just a bit more on the environmental storytelling because I think it's great, the game also plays around with pareidolia, just adding more to the psychological edge, making you second guess yourself and in a roundabout way, the true intentions of the story and indeed even some of the gameplay aspects the game straight-up lies to you about. While all of this comes together in a truly satisfying way much like Eternal Darkness did 20 years ago, the actual main plot of the game I feel doesn't keep up - I think more care and thought should've put into Senua's past or, at least make it less esoteric and easier to connect to. The subtle approach works incredible well with the psychosis - the game then just needed a blunter edge in showing the real damage and story behind Senua's person.

It's definitely an interesting game and there's probably even more I can talk about but I'm a bit out of time at the moment. I don't think its few shortcomings make the game any less worth playing either, it's 100% an excellent and emotionally affecting journey.

Usually I'd go out and Purge a little but this year I just stayed hunkered down, it was a quiet one this time around.

Yes, you know I didn't even realize there was a Friday the 13th in May way back when I first announced the project, I probably would've just made that the due date from the start!

Nor were there any released, mainly due to development hell and rights issues, which seem to be nearly all cleared up now though.

Okay, I gave it some thought, and to alleviate some last-minute stress or time constraints for anyone I'm moving the due date up a little to Friday, May 13th. Enjoy the little extra time for more spooks and scares.
