No, it's not. You can't call demeaning names to a whole group because of the bad actions of some within it. That's called a slur. Just because THESE cops did awful things doesn't mean that gives you free reign to demean and insult all cops.

If you feel justified pointing to these cops and using it as an excuse to use slurs, maybe think about how you'd feel if people used this as an excuse with racism. It's not cool and shouldn't be allowed or welcomed.

These cops suck but it's uncomfortable seeing this used as an excuse to go at all cops, just like it'd be the same if people posted videos of other races committing crime and used it as an excuse to get angry at the entire race

Stop comparing professions to race or any other immutable characteristic. A few bad apples can spoil a police department. A few bad apples don't spoil a race.

I went in expecting to hate it, but it turned out by watching the clip, the tweet was being highly selective about what he said.

To be fair, GTA is totally a "this character is you" series.

You're not the ninja leaping off of walls and slashing up demons. You're not an alien cyborg. You're not the fire-ball shooting chosen one. These are games people play for the action.

But GTA is wholly about inserting yourself vicariously into a world of crime. In that regard, I can't blame people for wanting avatars that look like them. But seeing as this game apparently has options, nobody should be getting upset that a female character is a playable option.

All "realistic" games give you an character to live vicariously through. Most of them have names and appearances, so they can't truly look like you. Do most people make themselves when handed a character creator anyway?

I just think it's dumb since people have been relating to characters in fiction since the dawn of time, but they need to be basically you in a video game to trigger that relation?

Most complaints about being unable to relate to a character appear to stop at whether they share the same skin color or genitals as the player. Does that truly make it relatable? I vividly remember the outrage over San Andreas having a black character after the "relatable" Tommy Vercetti of Vice City.

On social issues, wishy washy middle ground don't really make sense. Someone has a right or they don't have a right. When you start coming up with a bunch of exceptions, you end up with no one really having the right.

Many people in current times have come to the erroneous conclusion that the answer is always in the middle. And that receiving backlash for an opinion proves that there is validity to it.

It simply is not logical or feasible for social issues to be legislated in such a way.

That's how entertainment works. For whatever reason, what he's doing now is having people listen to him in the millions.

To say this stand-up comedian turn podcaster has some sort of public responsibility, as opposed to taking personal responsibility by not listening to his show, nor supporting the platform he's on, is just burying your head so no one can point the finger at you.

There's a reason why the Ben Shapiro and Crenshaw episodes get the most downloads and listens, and it isn't because they support Shapiro and Crenshaw, it's because they want to hear what they say so they can complain about it.

We're literally destroying the world by putting everything out there in the marketplace of ideas. Turns out that terrible shit actually doesn't get destroyed by being exposed to the general public.

How many hateful ideas, downright lies and fantasies are we going to allow to gain traction before we go "You know, maybe the safety and wellbeing of society is more important than conspiracy theorists and bigots getting treated like equally valid players in the conversation".

"Neither Joe Rogan nor his guests, nor any other person with a show and lots of listeners, are at fault if they influence people" is kind of like saying we could have world peace if everyone chose to love each other. At some point, we need to live in the real and world and realize that action causes change, not hopes and wishes.

They should be shut down, forcibly even. Their "opinions" are hurting other people. They are voting to turn their stupid opinions into inarguable law. No one would give a fuck if a bunch of wacky opinions and fantasies were discussed for fun at home.

Regardless of his personal beliefs, he is influential and has reach. He has a responsibility to not "give all sides equal time". Doing so means giving large soapboxes to things that are oftentimes 100% lies, things that only serve to harm innocent people. Signal boosting normalizes them, no matter how much we scream that it's not our fault if people choose to believe bullshit.
