okay, I played just a few more minutes. (I'm maybe 2 hours in, probably 1 hour for someone playing a little more efficiently than I am) I think I'm starting to accept the game for what it is. it's not awful. it's just not 2d metroid. it's the first in a line of a new kind of metroid game.

Question- How close is the original level design to Metroid 2? I know that game like the back of my hand. Just started playing AM2R and it's pretty good, finished the first area and the level design is pretty much just straight Metroid 2 with a few quirks here and there. Is that how Samus Returns is or is it something else entirely?

you know M2 wayyy better than me. I haven't even finished it. no amount of fandom can replace the fact that it's a classic game boy game. that said, AM2R is going to be a lot more faithful and samus returns will take a lot more liberties.

and how have you not played AM2R?! that game is amazing. it'll diversify itself later on but in a good way. I can't say enough positive things about AM2R.

I was always cool with Other M. made my top 10 that year. (not a great year but still)

it's just not worth fighting for and the complaints are so loud. people kill the story over and over but the real problem are those first person pixel hunting sections.

let's take the slide pad decision one step further. because it's impossible to, you know, aim with the slide pad, they put in a button to have you stand still and aim like you're a tank. it gives you 360 degree aim but it also removes the option to hold a button and aim at a 45 degree angle. you're pretty much out of luck if you want to run and gun - you have to stand still because it's real hard to aim.

to counteract this, they gave you a melee counter to give you a way to fight back. that's not very fun though. this isn't a 3d action game although they kind of want it to be. other m was a lot better about this honestly.

I haven't mentioned how every enemy takes an absolute ton of shots to kill, especially if you're using the ice beam. like, ice beam can take you from killing in 4-5 hits to like.. 30. you basically have to button mash because they only take damage when they're completely frozen. in fact, I've found that using bombs is actually the best way to kill early on because they do like 10x the damage of your garbage beams. freeze-> missile is sometimes the only way to kill enemies in any kind of reasonable timeframe. oh, and you miss a lot because slide pad.

I liked Other M to a certain extent

Poka, I hope you like it! I will say this -- I am a slave to 2d Metroid, particularly control, and I've played probably over a thousand hours across the series. when control is off the whole thing falls down. so for those who just play Metroid for the experience and the atmosphere, it might work okay for them. it does have a few interesting ideas, but the implementation is just gross.

I just want to warn people who might care about my opinion. this game is kind of terrible in a lot of unforgivable ways. it controls poorly in about five devastating ways, it gates your progress in ways that make Metroid Fusion blush and it's just not fun. I hate saying that because I'm probably the biggest 2d Metroid fan on the board. but this game.. I'll continue playing it because I love Metroid, but man, it is not good.

I've long believed that Bernie did the Democratic party a disservice by saying "i don't care about your damn emails." that was going to come long and hard in the general election (and apparently a year later, ugh) and he stopped it from being an issue early on. it might have even won him the nomination, who knows.

He was never going to win. Not beating up Clinton is what he should have done. I guess the argument is that if we had had that argument all the way out in the primaries that they'd have been dead as an issue by the general. But i just dont know if thats true.

The entire problem is no one who could have won besides hillary was in the race.

Joe Biden should very probably be President right now.

I think I've decided that it depends on if Kyrie shows up for 82 games. IT has a health concern but I worry about Kyrie coming to play hard the whole season. then again, if he's magic in the playoffs again we'll probably all ignore any regular season issues.
