Among friends, I've started using the name "Kisai", and there's quite a lot of friends who know me only by that name, which is fine. Anything other than my legal name, at least. "Kisai" was intended sort of as a nickname, or a placeholder name, or a pseudonym until I could come up with a better name. Then, when I applied at Wal-Mart and started working there, they asked if there was a different name I wanted on my name tag. Something different from my legal name. Not able to come up with anything on the spot, I just lazily suggested "Kisai". However, I worked in the back, in the freezer and cooler, so I didn't interact with anybody. Nobody ever saw my name tag. But now, I'm at Walgreens, and I'm a cashier. They also gave the opportunity to let me have a different name on my badge, and I was like, "Sure, why not?" and used the name Kisai again. Except now customers see my name badge a lot. And almost every day I get at least one customer asking, "How do you pronounce your name?" And I get comments on how unique it is, or what the origin it's from, or if I have hippy parents. Quite often I get told that it's a very pretty name. All these comments and questions, and all because I couldn't come up with a more permanent name. It's the most gender-neutral-sounding name I've got, though. ;_; Maybe I should have thought and planned ahead what name to use for the future, then I wouldn't have had to use an online name that I've been using for the past 15 years, and gotten so many comments and questions about it... --- WHO MODS THE MODERATORS? |
