Also I recall Bacon giving out information about how the votes looked purely from GameFAQs users and while I don't recall exactly what it was, I do remember Chrono Trigger looking pretty impressive(as in, better than FF7 at least)

The more the traffic to the front page falls, the more the poll results will probably fall in line with the userbase

I also feel like previously winner backlash would still very much affect the final round, so CT or RBY or any game not FF7 would get a big nudge in support if it happened in the finals.

This year had all the makings of a forgettable experience before it even began. We know Ocarina of Time is the game to beat, so you want to stack the bracket so it has as good of a chance of going down in the finals as it will ever get. However, the year format conjoins it to Pokemon Red/Blue, one of the few entities that could take it down, reducing the chances significantly of anything ever happening.

And then, you get all the problems in execution. Asking for write-up blurbs, only to do nothing with them. Keeping the process of how each year is presented to the front page a secret until an hour before bracket lockdown. The scrolling pictures and lack of standards in what games go on them, which may be the worst executed contest gimmick we've ever seen, giving us the rise of pic-dickery. The lack of communication from day one to final battle is just astounding.

And then 1997 puts on a performance that suggests it could have a chance at cracking '98, so it becomes a victim of pic-dickery and loses to 2001, which has no chance of taking down 98, leaving us to what could be a doubling in the final match.

Yeah, this has to be the worst. Imagine if the Trainers beat Ryu/Ken, but then Pokemon Trainer Red was taken out of the next match and replaced with Full Throttle. That's what this contest was.

97 had the best match pic of the contest, with FF7 and SOTN on top, Goldeneye and Mario Kart as the second line, and Star Fox and Fallout in the third line.

96 had Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot as the first line, Tomb Raider and Kirby as the second line, Mario RPG (it's second in command, which almost didn't make the pic) paired with Metal Slug, and Suikoden and Nights at the bottom. Completely absent from it's line up was Resident Evil, Diablo, Donkey Kong Country 3, or any attempt to reperesent the N64 aside from Mario.

Now, imagine if 97 drew its fourth round pic, but 96 got to pull off its all star line up

The biggest shame here is that Round 3 1997 is probably the only thing that could have a shot of dethroning 1998. Especially if that late round weirdness were to pop up where the underdog tends to overperform in late matches.

But, I don't think even the best 2001 can take down 1998, unless in the instance ideal 2001 meets a pic-dickery gimped 1998. I suppose it's very possible and a fitting end to this contest, but that's not going to be something anyone cares to remember a few months from now.

I'd take Fallout over Advance Wars. Fallout 1 has at least shown enough notoriety to get in these contests (was in Spring 2004, and I believe got Add/Removed out of the 2nd Games contest), even prior to Fallout 3 causing the series to go main stream. Advance Wars has been completely invisible until now, which is a good enough reason to doubt it here.

Eh, I think I'd take Half-Life 2 in the "best shooter" for this site. Even if it doesn't have the nostalgia factor, it's widely respected and nearly beat Metroid Prime that one time, though it's definitely fallen. Bioshock also came to mind, though it's hard to gauge considering unrelated rallies nearly pushed it to beat MGS3.

2015 X-stats put HL2 ahead of Goldeneye, though only by a slim margin. If I recall, they were in the same division, too, so it's more accurate than most results. Then again, Undertale...

I'd take Goldeneye in a straight match, but that whole division's got stat problems considering it got a ton of spillover from Undertale's rallies.

Allen has been running and entering the contests (for fun; he is not allowed to compete for any prizes) for years. A few of us joked about pic sabotage but none of us seriously think he's rigging things just to earn a spot on the leaderboard. As creativename said, he's just made some very questionable pic choices. It sucks for the people who are getting screwed over, but you can blame him for a poor understanding of what the best pictures are, not for intentionally messing with the results.

Yeah, this is rather ridiculous to think he's rigging the contest to be on the leaderboard or something, considering at the very least, Allen really isn't the most savvy contest predictor. I think he had Pokemon D/P/P over Brawl in Game of the Decade.

Removing Goldeneye is an obvious ploy to shift things in 2001's favor because it is like removing Melee in 2001. Not to mention MK64, a relatively beloved game on the site is removed in favor of a lesser known Racing game.

Goldeneye would absolutely destroy Halo on this site.

Do you have any "x-stats" , or sabermetrics to back that up?
keep in mind that Goldeneye has lost it's significance it had in the N64 era. Halo set the new standard for console FPS and most people these days would recognize the Halo franchise over Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.
This board might support your case but not the entire site and certainly not this generation of gamers as a whole.
