I definitely got a ton of Ghibli vibes during the game. Just the first things that immediately come to mind are:

* Lord of the mountain = forest spirit in Princess Mononoke
* The koroks and blupees remind me of critters you might see in a Ghibli movie, like the tiny forest spirits in Princess Mononoke, or the soot gremlins in Totoro and Spirited Away
* The atmosphere of the world has a certain reverence for nature and the wind, reminding me of Mononoke, Totoro, Nausicaa
*Steam-punky giant tank machines and flying machines, juxtaposed with a very empty natural world with little technology, reminds me of Nausicaa, and Castle in the Sky
* I'd be extremely surprised if Joe Hisaishi's Ghibli compositions were not a big inspiration for the music in this game:

- One Summer's Day from Sprited Away sounds identical to the various atmospheric piano music you hear throughout hyrule

- The first 30 seconds of the main theme reminds me of the first 30 seconds of a ton of Ghibli songs, for example Path of the Wind, from Totoro, although that's much simpler of a song https://youtu.be/FQx4cEwKD5E?t=29 (main theme here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDHw7EarfOk&list=PLFwObPlg7Y1pnZVEKHOE6QW66XZacCFxY&index=1)

You don't have to complete every shrine you find, you get the fast travel point anyway...

But, I believe that's the one with giant balls getting stuck while falling down a long slope of flowing water and obstacles. I've seen a few solutions, but I believe the typical solution uses lots of ice! That is my hint.

You're supposed to grab with tweezers and squeeze hard enough to get a good grip, and then slowly pull it off. You don't want it to barf into you since that's a good way to get a disease, therefore you don't want to kill it while it's attached. You also don't want to twist it in case pieces of it break off in you.

I had a couple ticks on my head a few months ago and went to the clinic at CVS to get them removed, much cheaper than urgent care or ER and I was too worried to do it myself. The clinician gave me those instructions if it happened again and I didn't want to come in (although I was pretty sure I remembered those from middle school health class as well, but not 100% sure).

I just replayed the 2016 e3 demo to check, and the game does feel great to me, especially the jumping. It also looks much better when it's full screen.

The main thing I'm worried about is whether each room's gameplay is just boring. Most of the time in the e3 demo it's one enemy at a time. You walk forward, an enemy spawns, you kill it in two hits, walk forward again, each room basically just a flat walkway. This video looks pretty similar, although the rooms are taller. But, they're just demos, so they have to be easy...

Does floaty mean you stay in the air for the long time during a jump? If so, SotN's gotta be one of the floatiest platformers ever.

As for the switch to 3d, my understanding has been that intricate spritework is just too expensive and a skill hard to come by these days, and sure enough Iga says something about that during the video, although he also brought up something I hadn't thought of, that it gets difficult to support many platforms and resolutions and viewports when using pixel art since pixel art is inherently not intended to be scaled (his words are better than mine).

Sure pixel art doesn't sound expensive to make, but looking back at all of the igavanias, they re-used TONS of 2d assets in every game, I can't imagine they'd do that unless they really saved a lot of time and money from it.

The Metroid 2 remake being 2.5d reinforced my hunch that 2.5d is just more cost effective, and not an artistic preference, that game sounds really fun but it looks like it was made on a budget.

I think the main reason Sombra is considered the "worst" is that she has the worst win rate in comp, by far: https://masteroverwatch.com/heroes/pc/us/mode/ranked

(be sure to select "competitive", and order by winrate)

Of course, win rate doesn't tell the whole story of course, as we've seen with Symmetra (everybody knows the situations she's great in, so she ends up with an amazing win rate).

But I definitely think Sombra's fun. She's not about killing, she's about utility and harassing, and maybe a little bit of killing.

Since Harrich seems up on Castlevania but behind on Metroids, I'd say Fusion. Or maybe Ori. He seems to value atmosphere over combat, according to the list of favorites!

One of the best aspects of the game is that you'll never find a problem that you have to "come back later" to solve. Except maybe in cases where you're simply low on resources.

Kinda the opposite of a metroidvania, where most problems are solved by coming back later.

As one of the people who thinks its the best game ever, I admit I couldn't claim that it is revolutionary in any one particular way. However, it does have a certain theme, a certain philosophy, and I think think it is an unfailingly brilliant expression of that philosophy. I think it's a game about creativity, discovery, character, and resources/survival. In other words, adventure. That's what they're trying to capture. Any other aspect is sacrificed, in the name of adventure.

People often fail to appreciate a great game, or at least, fail to appreciate great aspects of it. This often happens when they have preconceptions and have a hard time leaving them behind. (it's ok to not appreciate something of course, but you might be missing out!)

Take for example, the puzzles within shrines in this game. One could easily claim they are too easy. That, they start with an interesting premise, but they usually don't build on that premise, instead, the shrine ends.

But it is not a game about puzzles. It is a game about creativity. Every shrine puzzle has multiple solutions. Even shrine puzzles that I thought were clearly designed with a particular solution in mind...I'd see a streamer absent-mindedly solve them a completely different but totally reasonable way.

It is not a game about combat. People are used to approaching games that include combat in a certain way. Combat is usually the core game, each encounter is something to be conquered with your skill along with the character you've designed and built up over the course of the game. But here, combat is something else entirely, and a lot of people just don't appreciate the different approach. (and maybe they don't want a different approach! that's a reasonable point of view)

Instead I think combat is more of an obstacle. It is something that happens on your adventure and drains your resources: weapons, arrows, ingredients, meals. Creativity saves resources--making good use of the environment, or stealth, or your runes, or avoidance, or the elemental systems, or just plain ol' cleverness. But, failing that, sometimes you'll just have to fight it out, and stock up again on weapons and meals later. Fighting it out is pretty fun too. Something funny will probably happen, or you'll discover something during the fight. The game is funny like that.

And my favorite aspect of all, but the hardest to express without hyperbole, character. This is my favorite world in video games. Side quests are really just an excuse to meet people and learn about the world. Every direction you look, a gorgeous unexpected panorama, teeming with unique charm. Every person so cute and memorably written (every player has their favorites!). This is a world so genuine, I just love being in it. I hung out in Hateno talking to everyone, several times over the course of the game. Did you know many of the villagers there have special lines if you approach them while holding a blue flame?

And of course, as has been said many times about the game, every corner or mountain you explore, you'll discover something. Sometimes something helpful, or something to make you smile, or something that'll blow your mind.

Also, the Master Sword is fucking pathetic in this game. Look, I know you have the whole weapon durability system (which I actually find neat), but it necessitates that the Master Sword is pitiful. If the the permanent upgraded-state from the new dlc dungeon doesn't also make it unbreakable, it will probably be my biggest complaint with the game.

... It's really not tho. In dungeons at least, 60 power is great. Having an unbreakable sword at full power available for use everywhere would be terrible though so I love how the MS is handled. Even then, 30 power is perfectly usable as weapon that you don't have to worry about wasting so I still use it in the field too whenever.

Also, don't forget damage per second, the attack rating of a weapon is not its DPS: I looked around for data a while ago and I believe the 60dmg Master Sword has the highest melee DPS in the game, or maybe tied for it, and the 30dmg Master Sword is pretty high up there too, although not the best.

Naa, weapons breaking more would be a disincentive to participate in combat. Same problem as harder enemies.

If any changes are needed to combat, make it harder to avoid, or hard to run away from, so maybe just put enemy encampments right on the middle of the road sometimes, or places where you can't really go around. Or, make enemies often throw nets that stop you if you try to run away. Or just do a better job of incentivizing attacking encampments, and then make 'em harder.

Nerfs to the most powerful things in the game, like the easy-to-make meals that give full hearts + bonus hearts. Make it so that only meat makes the meals that give more than 5 hearts, to encourage hunting.

Make Beedle stop selling arrows, and put more of them in the various chests out in the world.

Slightly tweak every shrine for more difficulty, wouldn't be that much work I bet. In some shrines, add one more room that builds on the previous puzzles in the shrine. In other shrines, add some enemies. In other shrines, block the most obvious solution, to encourage creativity.

Really, I'm thinking of a master quest sort of thing, where the actual game has a whole bunch of meaningful new rules and slightly modified content. Not just harder combat.

Oof, I was realllly looking forward to hard mode being more interesting than that. The game isn't entirely about combat, so just increasing some enemies' stats isn't the most interesting idea.

I do think it's about the intensity of the bonus, but maybe each color represents a range of possible outcomes based on a dice roll, and the ranges of different colors slightly overlap. For example, perhaps white is 15-25 bonus on that weapon, and yellow is 20-30

I watched the 2 hour joseph anderson review of this game. It was horrible, don't watch it unless you want a lesson on how not to critique a game. He opens by saying it was one of the best games he's ever played, but instead of talking about what's good, instead for 2 hours he explains how he would have designed the combat and shrines differently to be more like how he likes puzzles and combat, ignoring how those changes would drastically change the rest of the game, and ignoring what role combat and shrines play in the entire package.

He actually thinks you should be able to attack with your fists, and beat any creature in the game that way, with enough skill. Why the hell would a skilled player explore and gather resources and play the actual game then?!

I guarantee you he would have combat work the same way using the same controls and same math in every game if he had his way, no matter what game it is. And it would be balanced and boring as hell.
