I thought the dungeons were fine, I just wish they felt more unique.

They're all just: get map, rotate body part on map, go to all points, kill boss, click last point.

They all look and feel the same.

I've found them all by exploration for now, but it's starting to get tough. I need about 20 side quests as well (already printed those out and will mechanically check them off), so hopefully I'll discover a few more shrines while finishing those.

I expected someone to tell me how to shield surf at the beginning, and then I forgot about it for 5-10 hours. I felt dumb for forgetting about it lol. It is surprisingly fun, and in some cases the best way to travel.

I shield surf even when it's completely impractical to do so. Yes I'm going slower than running on rough terrain and destorying my hyrule shield but its soooo fun

I only shield surfed for the two or three Koroks that required it

After playing the game more, I feel like I have to commend its music even more fully. I found a video that really explains some thoughts well, but in general, just getting familiar with the tracks, where things play, etc, I find it more and more remarkable how much is said with how little.

There are certain figures in the music which feel very welcoming, ushering in a new chance at exploration. There are themes which really explore the wideness of the world. It's so immersive. Especially exploring the SE portion of the map, and having the dragon music play as Farrosh is cascading down the waterfalls, interrupting the lone silence with ancient, powerful melodies. That really reminded me of the Ash Lake area from Dark Souls.


@foolm0r0n , I think we've said enough to each other on the subject, but I would encourage you and anyone else who cares to to watch this video. He gets a little more into particular themes than the general overworld, but I like his take.

I think shield surfing doesn't hurt your shields at all in sand and snow, and probably not very much on grass. Also it's the best thing

Yeah shield surfing doesn't decrease durability on sand/snow.

Rocks obliterate it.

Grass does minor damage.

Same thing with how sneak attacks don't decrease durability, or how if you use a torch/mining hammer/axe for the intended purpose it breaks super slow but if you try to fight with them they break quickly.

Expand inventory.

Keep a surfing shield.

Yeah having enough shields should never be a problem.

So I thought my Lightscale Trident was unbreakable because I'm a friggin idiot and I whacked some luminous stone rocks with it and I just realized that the grumpy old Zora in Zora's domain can fix it lol I'm so relieved.

I did it. I beat Ganon. I am finally free of this game. (after I do the last Shrine)

I'm sorry it's over, but also I really want to get to Persona so I am sort of glad to be finished.

Incredible game, maybe my favorite LoZ ever. I need to replay LttP to know for sure.

I've finished the Shrine Quests, so those last 11 are just out there in the wilderness, laughing at me. I'll probably rob myself of the exploration and use a map to check em off tonight, then finally beat the game tomorrow.

This has been a masterpiece.

And dude, yes. I love how they just littered the overworld with them to incentivize exploring every nook and cranny. If I'm ever able to replay this (and if I have the time), I might try full, bit-by-bit exploration kind of like how Shine did in his playthrough.

I watched the 2 hour joseph anderson review of this game. It was horrible, don't watch it unless you want a lesson on how not to critique a game. He opens by saying it was one of the best games he's ever played, but instead of talking about what's good, instead for 2 hours he explains how he would have designed the combat and shrines differently to be more like how he likes puzzles and combat, ignoring how those changes would drastically change the rest of the game, and ignoring what role combat and shrines play in the entire package.

He actually thinks you should be able to attack with your fists, and beat any creature in the game that way, with enough skill. Why the hell would a skilled player explore and gather resources and play the actual game then?!

I guarantee you he would have combat work the same way using the same controls and same math in every game if he had his way, no matter what game it is. And it would be balanced and boring as hell.

Dunno who he is or why you would watch a 2 hour review but I wish it had unarmed combat as well. Even if it was just a joke and you did 1 damage. It'd be fun to dick around or try to beat the game barehanded. It wouldn't be hard to keep it balanced I wouldn't think.

I thought the Joe Anderson critique was really good, he explained his points thoroughly and made me rethink a lot of my thoughts on the game. BotW has a lot of flaws and I agreed. I'm not as picky as him but he's right with all he says.

You should be able to punch barehanded for one damage and the DLC should add fist/caestus weapons for actual combat. I'm honestly surprised the Gorons didn't have any already.

Beat Ganon today.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the fight, but I actually thought the first form was a little challenging. Second form was easy but I loved the visuals.

Hyrule Castle is insane. Found the memory but didn't find the Shield or Shrine that are supposedly there, so I'll need to head back. Also didn't realize there was a 13th memory so I guess I haven't seen the full ending.

How is beating Ganon for first time when you are actually jacked up?

I'm really glad I didn't when I first did it, it was a STRUGGLE even getting to him, but I wanna know if it is still as fun without the sense of such an overwhelming place where you can get KO'd so quick. Guardians were gonna screw me up... I was also dumb and hadn't figured out how to reflect yet, but somehow it just made it seem so much more high stakes as I'm trying to find the perfect path.

Also I didn't have Zora stuff so I couldn't go up waterfalls, and I was using ice to get up and having to be very strategic about it to void getting guardian lasered, took me forever to get up 2 waterfalls between Lynel and Ganon

It was fun but I can see how it would be a totally different experience if you went there early and didn't know about parrying (I would never have thought to parry if I hadn't read about it). I felt compelled to take out every guardian I came across because of resources. It would have been fun to actually sneak around them.

What does the Icon color on the weapon modifier (Attack Up, Durability Up, etc) mean? Sometimes it's white and sometimes it's yellow.

I have 2 Royal Broadswords on me right now. White Attack Up + 24 and Yellow Attack Up + 23

(I also have a Savage Lynel Sword Yellow Attack Up + 38, so it doesnt mean yellow is lower, either.)
