Yeah it makes sense because when you get tired blood flows more easily into your donger

Something like this.

It's not tremendously well-understood (nothing about sleep is), but that's not far off of one of the theories. Counterintuitively, sexual arousal is triggered by the parasympathetic nervous system, and inhibited by the sympathetic, which is the opposite of how most physical arousal works. When you're tired enough to be nodding off, sympathetic activity is quite low, so you don't have that inhibition anymore and the body reverts to its default state of being sexually aroused.

Conversely, that's why it's hard to get it up when you're nervous or stressed. High sympathetic activity=inhibited sexual arousal, which makes sense because your body's all like "no we can't make sexytime now that tiger's going to eat us if we don't punch it."

Most of it stems from Trump's election. Nobody's really changed, it's just that people that didn't feel comfortable voicing their views before are having them validated by a prominent public figure, and further validated by the fact that enough people agreed with him to vote him into office. That amounts to a pretty considerable confidence boost.

Thats unfortunate. It feels like a step backwards socially.

It is and it isn't. It is actually good for everyone to get a chance like that to express their views, because otherwise they fester in secrecy until the opportunity arises to act on them. It's easy to forget that, say, there are still people who seriously think interracial marriage should be made illegal again, and if you pretend that opinion doesn't exist and shut down any attempt at discussing it, those holding it will be drawn to fringe extremist groups where they can feel validated. This way, the more harmful views are brought out into the open, allowing them to be identified and forcing proper discussion of them (even if they don't actually have any value, those holding them believe that they do, and that's a problem that can't be solved without engaging them).

A lot of these views are still very harmful, and given the power currently wielded by the Republican party it's going to be necessary to fight tooth and nail to keep them from causing harm, but this is still necessary to moderate the citizenry's views. That goes both ways, too. When nobody feels comfortable expressing one side, the other side feels reinforced by the illusion that there's no opposition. Echo chambers don't benefit anyone either.

REM sleep arousal. It's what causes morning wood; both men and women display the physical signs of sexual arousal during REM sleep (though obviously it's more noticeable in men). If you're tired and nodding off, your body is trying to drop directly into REM sleep, and that will sometimes cause spontaneous erections.

Should this not be the same for healthcare?

It should not, because health care isn't optional. You have far, far more control over how well you drive (or if you drive at all) than you have over how much health care you'll need. Yes, there are instances where somebody only needs health care because of something that is in their control, but on a larger scale, that is not the case.

Additionally, having it as a tax allows the fee to reflect the taxee's means. People with more money to pay for better insurance don't necessarily need better health care. Quite the opposite, in fact. Socioeconomic status is VERY strongly correlated with overall health levels, despite the fact that the quality of insurance available to people displays precisely the opposite of that correlation. A traditional insurance model with adjustable rates therefore cannot cover the actual needs of a health care system.

That's a pretty reasonable requirement, actually. It makes sure other people on the road don't have to pay if you screw up. Given that you are not perfect and infallible, that's always a possibility. Even on the off chance you actually are, you're still going to want all the other people on the road that aren't to be able to pay for any of their screw-ups that affect you, and given that there's really no way to determine who's actually never going to do anything wrong, a blanket requirement is the best way to ensure that coverage.

Apple markets to people who don't know s*** about computers

Beats (which I suppose is also apple) targets people who don't know anything about sound quality

Etc. etc.

And those aren't discriminatory marketing practices. They target people based on their understanding of the products, not anything else. Targeting people who don't understand what matters in toiletries, charging them for pointless stuff? That's fair game. Specifically targeting a subgroup of people within that demographic and aiming to have them pay more for literally no reason? Not so much, because that's discriminatory.

Smarkil posted...
Like, it's all demographic targeting. That's the point. They do it because it works. If customers are dumb enough to get duped by terrible marketing campaigns, then that's really their own problem.

Even ignoring the highly questionable logic of blaming a scam's victim instead of the one perpetrating the scam, the issue here isn't that consumers in general need to educate themselves to avoid falling for marketing campaigns. It's that certain consumers need to slough through more lies than others. I certainly don't expect female-targeted toiletries to be held to a higher standard of advertising honesty than others. I just don't think it's right for them to be held to a lower standard.

Also, again, the Pink Tax is far from the only example of discriminatory marketing practices. It's no less scummy when companies manipulate men into paying more for the same thing (though there aren't nearly as many examples of that). That doesn't make the Pink Tax okay, though. Two wrongs don't make a right.

That'd be true regardless of which demographic was being exploited; the Pink Tax just happens to be one of the more widespread and egregious examples of discriminatory marketing practices. I don't particularly object to expecting consumers to make informed decisions to ensure their money is being spent wisely, but when a subset of a product's user base has to sift through more lies to make those informed decisions than the rest of the user base, that's not okay.

Cheapest bike they have is $450

So not paying that much.

Realistically, if you're looking for something decent, you should probably be looking in the $400-600 range for a new one. There's a sizable jump in quality from the $100-300 range to that one. Cheaping out on a Walmart Special will do the job, but it's not necessarily going to be a particularly comfortable ride (even with an aftermarket saddle upgrade; there's a lot more to bicycle ergonomics than how comfy the seat is), nor a particularly fast/efficient one, nor a particularly durable one. Cheaping out on this first bike to see how you like having one makes enough sense, but you're probably going to want to upgrade if you end up using it a lot.

If nothing else, free parking that you don't have to spend time searching for is huge. If you're taking your bike downtown on a regular basis, you'll fairly quickly save enough time and money to justify splurging a bit. Don't go for a $4000 one, obviously (even aside from the cost, those tend to be full-carbon frames, which are bad to put in bike racks because of how susceptible they are to impacts from other bikes), but you really don't need to be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I love how they just don't move after being put on the track at the end.

So you are fine with people being charged money for having a relative die?

But they aren't being charged money for having a relative die. If they were charged money, then they'd have less money after the relative died than before (which funeral expenses actually do, but that's another discussion). Instead, they're being paid money for having a relative die. Having the estate taxed just means they get paid less than they would if not for the tax.

The estate tax may be stupid given the absurd number of times that money has already been taxed, but how do you make up for the shortfall?

That's the biggest thing. Whatever gripes you may have with the concept, if it didn't exist, that tax revenue would still be needed, and other taxes would be raised or added to make up for it.

By the time you're old enough to be considering PAD, it'll probably be legal in the US.
