And the complaint is speculative, gender-baiting bullshit which gives women a free pass for doing things a man couldn't get away with.

You're saying that based on Duckbear's rather limited and sensationalised paraphrasing of Daily Mail's rather limited and sensationlised account of the events, as well as your own thinly-veiled misogynistic biases. A judge with access to all facts of the case and a substantial body of evidence said the opposite, and gave her $40 million as a result. adjl
06/09/17 5:34:56 PM

The biggest reason is that pretty much everyone they would have speak at a press conference doesn't speak enough English to be able to present without a translator. It's just much, much easier for them to record a Direct and have a translation dubbed over it, as well as being more engaging for the audience because they don't have to wait for a translator to catch up. Especially where you consider that, for online audiences (the vast majority of viewers), the only real difference is that the people you see talking between trailers are in front of a green screen instead of on a stage, and that's pretty meaningless.

DarkKirby2500 posted...
After the Wii, they weren't interested in he "gamer" audience, they wanted the "non gaming casual" audience, so they deemed an E3 stage show a waste of time and money.

That's not true at all. The whole point of the "U" in the WiiU's name was the idea that it was going to be a system for "You, the core gamer." Their failure to engage that audience with the WiiU was due to other factors than a casual-centric attitude (note also that it was 2013 when they stopped doing the conferences, well after the Wii's casual audience had lost interest) Deeming E3 a waste of time and money was for factors other than the audience, especially where the press conference at E3 is more often tailored for shareholders and other industry folks (who love to see things that will sell to hordes of casual gamers) than core gamers.

And yeah, I won't touch a filthy animal like a swine, not even with a fork.

Clearly somebody's never been inside a chicken coop. Pigs are no filthier than any other livestock, that was just the easiest wording to use in writing down kosher/halal laws to convince people not to eat something that carried serious and then-incomprehensible health concerns. Now that we have meat inspection and meat thermometers and pans/burners that can cook meat effectively, the likelihood of contracting trichinosis or pork tapeworms (which are really, really bad infestations to get, even today) has been virtually eliminated, so those rules don't really matter as much in today's world.

JanwayDaahl posted...
Plenty of cultures have "fresh" food that are decorated with spices

Today, yes, but that's not where the cuisine came from. In hotter climates, it was much harder to preserve meat, so it became common practice to heavily season it to mask the taste of it having gone bad. That practice persisted past the invention and proliferation of refrigeration, simply because those were the flavours people were used to, and now the same seasoning is applied to fresh meat and has been refined for that. Cuisines developed in colder climates (i.e. the European countries that comprised most of America's initial colonization) tend to be less heavy on the seasoning, plus a lot of America's history has been since the invention of domestic fridges in the early 1900's.

And that number is going to start including people who have no interest in Islam whatsoever. I have been guilty of that sort of thing myself, largely because experimenting with unfamiliar restaurants alone is kind of intimidating. There's often a massive selection, and it can be overwhelming to try and figure out which ones are worth spending on of those 24 precious meals at (and while it seems silly, I would kind of be more inclined to completely waste the meal by going to a fast food place than to risk trying to make good use of it and ending up with something mediocre). That, and if I'm traveling alone, that means I'm eating alone, and going into a sit-down restaurant to eat alone isn't completely comfortable. It's silly, and a waste of a great opportunity to try new foods, but I can sort of understand the lure of familiar things.

Now, I say this having never traveled alone anywhere particularly well-known for its local cuisine. In such a case, I would probably be interested enough in the local fare to take some chances and step outside of my comfort zone, and when I've visited such places with other people, we've done so. But I can understand where she's coming from.
