Topic | Why do white people have such a victim complex |
WaterLink 08/04/17 12:38:46 AM #23 | So the homeless white people being bums on Venice Beach that always come up to me asking for shit when I'm just trying to rent a skateboard to get up and down the boardwalk are privileged? I'd agree with the sentiment that "there are more privileged white people than other races" but I've seriously heard "you can have a shit life and still be privileged". Like, human beings are way more than just the color of their skin. We get a sense of initial comfort when we see things we know and see things we can use as a connection with each other. If I'm walking down the street and I see a black person wearing a final fantasy t shirt or an anime shirt, I may stop and have a conversation with him. At least I'm more likely to do that with him than the white guy wearing some generic shirt I don't care about. I don't pretend to know what black people have to go through, because I'm not black. But I have this hypothesis that the things that many of the far left say they fight for, their actions simultaneously go against their notions. But again that's only the far left and mostly people on the internet. You meet people IRL that are left leaning but they're usually more open to have a debate and be reasonable about things. One thing I hate about the internet, I feel like it's become the source to take out aggression and amplify the feelings they can't dish out IRL. Applying to both sides. Like I go to comments on articles and videos and I've seen some of the most racist shit I've ever seen, and I know for a fact these people don't have the balls to say this stuff IRL lol. --- No one sings like you anymore |
Topic | Do you believe in the death penalty? |
WaterLink 08/03/17 11:47:41 PM #11 | I see the argument brought up that life sentences are cheaper than death sentences, but isn't that because of appeals? Like pleading guilty to get life instead of the death penalty by pleading not guilty + many appeals? If that's the case, could it be that if the death penalty was banned, you'd actually see an increase of not guilty pleas, thus making life sentences more expensive, if not more expensive than the life/death combo we currently have? Also, would pleading guilty to the worst of crimes prevent you from life sentences if the death penalty was eliminated? --- No one sings like you anymore |

Topic | Why does anyone smoke? |
WaterLink 08/03/17 10:54:56 PM #7 | You get drunk, and think "well one won't hurt, I won't get addicted just from one. Always wondered what it was like". Then you don't smoke again until next time you're offered one when you're drunk, with the rationale of "well I did it last time and it wasn't bad, and it was so long ago. Only those pack a day smokers get it bad". Then you become that guy that's cool because you smoke, but only when you drink. And you can still not smoke when you're sober. But then you have a bad day, so you bum a cig from your friend while you're sober. Your first sober cig. And you realize you don't really like it. So then you think "yeah, fuck smoking, shits nasty". But then you go to college and you become friends with a girl and you find out she smokes. You don't want to look like a square in front of her so you accept her offer of a cigarette because you're trying to play it cool in the hopes you'll impress her enough to do the horizontal boogie with her in the near future. You even go so far to buy your own first pack. She ends up not banging you, and kind of distances herself from you when she turns you down for a date. So you're depressed, and well you bought a whole pack so it'd be a shamed to waste them right? And then you just have a nightly cigarette. Then it comes up to two cigs a day. And then boom. It keeps adding up variably depending on how your day goes and how busy you are. And eventually you're hooked. --- No one sings like you anymore |

Topic | It's Always Sunny is perfect. |
WaterLink 08/02/17 7:47:34 PM #10 | When you're watching Always Sunny, just remember that it's not like other shows. Their sitcom is incredibly artistic, almost to the point where you have to be paying complete attention to them to even remotely understand them. I remember watching an episode from season 6 (though I can't remember what it was), where I thought an episode was absolute bollocks during the watch. Then, I closed my eyes for a second, and all of a sudden the episode had an entirely new meaning. It was insane the way Always Sunny could just become something so different when you take a look into the writing. Another thing you should note about Always Sunny is that it's easy to get a headache watching them. Not because they're a bad cast, but because of how many ideas their show is riddled with and how complex they are. Soon enough your head will fill to the brim and the rest will just look like trash to you. Just turn it off and give it a watch the next day. If you don't like the show, you'll definitely at least enjoy reading through the script, and picking apart the episode itself and all of the artistic values that go into making it the complexity that it is. --- No one sings like you anymore |

WaterLink 08/02/17 4:54:14 AM #29 | pinky0926 posted... Making a coherent argument is not the same thing as showing gradual evolution over time. TC, if you want to make a point and have people accept it, follow the classic model: I have an A,B,C model. Here's my C All I'm try to say is if you agree with that image I posted, then you agree it's a gradual change. As a species, as a society. How far have we come in the past 15 years or so alone? Especially with the LGBT community. Sure it's not perfect now. There are still many problems to address. And they should be given time to adapt. I believe people should have an adaptive period. You can't expect an overnight change. It's a slow progression. Stop villainizing and shaming people that aren't immediately receptive to your ideals. You ever stop to think how there hasn't been a single party that had two consecutive presidents serve 2 full terms? If you exempt extenuating circumstances (like FDR serving more terms then dying then Truman serving after the war, or others dying), there really isn't a case of this happening. Last time anything similar happened was Reagan serving 2 terms then Bush serving 1 term. This is a pattern throughout history of fatigue of the status quo. It's been going on forever, and we've still been making steady progress. So tl;dr, it'll be ok. your guy didn't win, odds are you'll be back in come next election or two. Just how it goes. Stop acting like now all of a sudden this is some new phenomenon. It's just elevated more because we have internet so we can actually communicate with the whole world instantaneously instead of simply talking about it with your neighbor or some stranger at the local supermarket. --- No one sings like you anymore |

WaterLink 08/02/17 4:06:18 AM #13 | OK. So then, this is an image that liberals can probably agree on right? ![]() Once again, this is something that I agree on. I'm not trying to condemn anyone here. I'm not trying to denounce anyone's religious beliefs, nor am I trying to attack evolution. I'm not trying to attack liberals or conservatives either. My question is directed at liberals simply because they are the most vocal here and I kinda want them to see a long term trend but I need these assumptions to be established first, but I just want to be sure that the assumptions I'm making are valid. Only reason I'm doing it in this manner is because when I make a long post it seems one small part of a big post of info is taken and attacked and the rest is ignored. So I want to go one step at a time so when any hangups occur, we can address it there and then. --- No one sings like you anymore |
