The Pancakes & Piledrivers show I mentioned last topic had one that came very close in Ricochet vs Shane Strickland that I also had at 4 1/2. There's been a hodgepodge of ****1/4s scattered around as well. I still have quite a few shows to watch, though. Hardyz/Bucks at Supercard of Honor in particular has been getting a lot of buzz and I could easily see that taking the top spot when it's all said and done. I also haven't gotten around to EVOLVE 81, PROGRESS, RPW, Beyond Wrestling, or the Wrestlecon Supershow, and they all have at least one match on them that could easily be a contender. Fantastic weekend for wrestling. --- |

This is where I come out on Taker as well. I also didn't really grow up with him like I know a lot of people did, so there's that. All the respect in the world, really enjoyed him at times, but this isn't a retirement that hits me near as hard as, say, Danielson's. --- |

The matches themselves make it super. Fans weren't screaming their heads off at Okada/Omega because they anticipated the ending of a story and felt like that made it a big moment. They were screaming because they knew they were watching a special professional wrestling match and it felt like a big moment to them no matter what was to follow after. You need closure to make things feel big. I don't, and since there are plenty of other fans like me, there's no reason everything should be booked such that it fits into the lens of fans like you. Like, unless you're a speedrunner there's really no reason you would have knowledge of any of the complexities because it's easy and fun enough to get through the game by mashing the X button on every difficulty but Critical. The gameplay is amazing in 2 if you actually know what you're doing and understand every facet of how the combat works. It's the games after that ruined it. I agree that the prologue had power the first time around, but do you still get that same feeling on replay? I don't. I don't know near enough about game design to comment from that perspective, but speaking purely as a player, the basic formula of the first couple KH games doesn't bother me, because it's a fun formula. I give the prologue credit for trying something different, and like I said, on a first playthrough it held my attention because the story was presented in an interesting way that made me want to play more. When I go back to the game now, though, I know the story, and I'm playing exclusively for the sake of enjoying the gameplay. And for me, that means I want to get into the deep combat that the game has to offer. The Roxas portion doesn't have that.
