People that don't think Kawhi belongs in the discussion need their head examined. He's a DPOTY-caliber defender where guys like Westbrook and Harden are legitimately defensive liabilities, and his offensive contributions aren't significantly lower than theirs.

And the rest of the Spurs have an image of being better than they actually are right now. LMA is doing his best Boris Diaw cosplay and all of their other big contributors like Gasol and Parker have been very inconsistent. If they end up with the 1-seed, it's going to be almost entirely on the back of Kawhi Leonard.

VOW revealed the top 25 for the ROH project on their podcast today if anyone's curious.

25. Eddie Edwards
24. Kyle O'Reilly
23. Takeshi Morishima
22. Jimmy Jacobs
21. Adam Cole
20. Davey Richards
19. Tyler Black
18. KENTA
17. Claudio Castagnoli
16. Chris Hero
15. Jay Lethal
14. Mark Briscoe
13. Homicide
12. AJ Styles
11. Low Ki
10. El Generico
9. Christopher Daniels
8. Roderick Strong
7. Kevin Steen
6. Jay Briscoe
5. Austin Aries
4. Nigel McGuinness
3. CM Punk
2. Samoa Joe
1. Bryan Danielson

Only three men were on all 111 ballots: Danielson, Punk, and Strong. I don't know how you can possibly justify leaving off any of that top ~20 at all and especially any of the top 10, but some people did it.

But then there were some people that, for example, voted for Cheech and not Cloudy, so I'm not sure how much thought went into some of these. Probably the most hilarious part of the whole list was that Dunn and Marcos, the Ring Crew Express, tied at #122, but Dunn was on two ballots and Marcos was only on one.

I don't want to complain too much about placing overall, but Lethal being above KENTA and Black makes me physically ill.

Well the top stars in WWE are basically like global superstar popstar sensations like One Direction or Ariana Grande. Kobashi is like a kinda cool vocaloid cover. He had a nice little high for a brief period, but he's not in the same league as someone like Val Venis or The Godfather.

This may have been true once, but I don't think it's holding true in this era. You really think there's going to be more people that really remember Cesaro in 20 years than there are people who remember Kobashi today?

Like, yeah, Danielson, Punk, and Styles are probably pretty solidly going to go down as more legendary. I'm not sure you can make that argument for any more ROH guys as of right now.

Well, The Shield, the Yes Movement, Summer of Punk and so on, are bigger deals to the average wrestling fan, than Misawa vs Kobashi, which is frankly an obscure feud these days.

Like, I don't think Sami Zayn, AJ Styles or Kevin Owens would trade their careers for Kobashis, when they make more money, are seen by millions weekly and perform in 60k+ stadiums when Kobashi maxed out at 55k.

When all is said and done, I think you're more likely to see the average fans rank Cesaro on a greatest workers list than Kobashi. Sucks, but the only Japanese wrestlers who are actual stars are Inoki, Rikidozan and to some extent Sakuraba.

You're not wrong, but I always hesitate to use "average wrestling fan" as a metric because you run into dangerous territory where somebody like Braun Strowman is also a bigger deal to the average wrestling fan. It doesn't sit right with me that simply being in WWE would almost automatically catapult someone's legacy over a wrestler like Kobashi's where in reality they don't even belong in the same stratosphere.

I think when you make someone the face of NXT (once they decided to make it a major brand, which they have), that individual is going to be given a major role on the roster. Now how long they sustain that role is entirely up in the air, but Vince will debut them as a top 2 or 3 face or heel on their designated brand. What Vince does after that is something else entirely.

We'll see. I really feel like if they had those kind of plans for him, they'd have brought him up right when Balor got hurt and they were in dire need of a top face like that.

Oh, and isn't Nakamura getting paid loads of money?

Because if he's getting paid a lot, they're going to push him.

This isn't necessarily true. They're paying him a lot to do nothing in NXT. Who's to say they won't pay him a lot to do nothing on the main roster?

He's not doing nothing in NXT.

He is literally the entire brand down there.

He's spent a year main eventing house shows in Largo for like 40 people.

You can call him the face of NXT, but that's not enough to justify the money they're supposedly paying him.

Then take it out on Vince McMahon and vote with your dollars. Paying to boo is dumb.

I'm really starting to loathe WWE fans. They s*** on Goldberg for being a part timer on the same show Undertaker gets a holy s*** chant for.... being a part timer.

No one else on the roster is built up for a WM main event except Cena and Reigns, which is not Goldberg's fault. Bunch of whiny ass punks.

I'm not gonna fall all over myself defending WWE fans, but I don't think Goldberg to Undertaker is really a good 1-1 comparison. One of them has been gone for over a decade, returned, and won the quote-unquote top title in the company while logging less than two minutes worth of actual ring time. The other has had some of the most well-regarded matches in company history over that same time frame, has never left, and has no designs on the world title.

And I think that second statement is part of why they're booing Goldberg. They're pissed that WWE refuses to build up their actual roster as main event level talent, so they're naturally taking it out on the guy that is in that spot.
