Better compensation for workers and an end to forced labor (i.e slavery) if it meant that the price of chocolate doubled or even trippled?

The chocolate industry is reliant on a combination of slaves, poor labourers and children to keep the industry's prices as low as they are. Very few companies even make a slight effort (Anything with the Fair Trade label) and even fewer actively make an effort to curtail it. (Tony's Chocolate). Doing so would obviously require a sizable sacrifice for the price of chocolate and would likely lead to a crash of the industry until it could recovered and complied and changed gears.

Anyway it's all a matter of degrees right? Like you need to weigh potential harm with the potential benefits. You can talk about it in public, you can even get away wearing very little clothing out on the streets but the minute you walk into a store, it's expected you have some more decorum.

Similar to children, it's ok to give them the birds and bees but it is vastly inappropriate to tell them the squishy details of how they were conceived, for example. With that said, by the age of like 14/15 you should be able to have honest and frank conversations with your kid about any subject so it doesn't force a situation where they feel compelled to go online and ask strangers.

I think it's more like a bubble. Like bubbles exist in all industries, the goal is to make sure they don't grow too much. When corporations start to feel the crunch and infinite wealth generation proves to be a lie or backers back out after they didn't hit projected numbers, this causes a rebound crunch where the company, in order to make their stocks remain strong start to rely on the tried and true methods: slower wage increases, cost increases, lay offs, stock-buy backs etc. But often times these only prop up a business a little more and they are artificial at best as the increase costs and less ability to maintain what they had start to hurt business operations leading to further losses. Thus always to MegaCorps

All of this is helping them:

Not good enough. I have friends and family facing uncertain futures where this country might literally try to kill them when a conservative gains power. And I mean when, not if, because it will happen eventually unless more is done. And I'm supposed to care about all that as the day to day management becomes worse and worse for queer people everywhere

One of my wife's best friend had her loans cancelled. She was unfortunate enough to go to a scam school.

At the federal level, they've codified gay marriage, climate bills, lots of medical items to lower costs for Medicare and others, etc. Many state legislatures have also codified abortion rights after roe v wade

Meanwhile, my health insurance doubled in cost, gay marriage was never not going to be a thing where I live, climate change good, abortion good but meanwhile you have... Texas and Florida and other shitty as states making things infinitely worse. What is helping those people?

Not sure if I'm missing the sarcasm, but the ones most impacted by the loan forgiveness so far have been the lower income people, not "wealthy fucks

I don't know anyone who has been positively effected. Do you? I can see some meaningful reforms with student loan consolidation, but if you were already in a payment plan, it likely didn't do much for you or like for me, would have costed more and would have extended how long I had to pay for it before forgiveness sets in. Life's a bitch

I mean if you don't believe me, go post some questions online and see what they say...? I'm active in the trans community and this is my experience with discussions surrounding moving or visiting places, it depends on the laws and political climate, bills under consideration or what types of policies are being pursued, etc. We don't just make blanket statements "stay away from this state no matter what" for any place that has anti trans sentiment like Texas for example. In the US, Florida is basically at the top of the list of do not visit or move to live there.

We have trans people all over the US who chime in on these discussions with their lived experiences in said areas as well.

I can confirm this as well. Don't go to Texas either if you can help it, mind, but it doesn't have the same level as Florida. Give it time though. I think I can still use my Drivers Licence in Texas at the very least. So I'm not guilty of fraud just by entering

It feels like homosexuality was more accepted in that era than in any other in history

I can't remember the exact rules that generally governed homosexuality. Iirc as long as you were the older, active/dominant partner or the younger submissive/passive partner it was considered acceptable. That's not counting weird special status that you got to have if you were a priest of some sort which let you have other things.

But as for the second? Fuck no. They were too patriarchal. Two women having sex was confusing and weird to them to the extent that they didn't even see it as sex and again, outside specific cults and priestess roles, fucking between women was dishonorable.

Meanwhile in other civilizations they were like "You gay? Cool. You trans? You have magic powers" the Greeks were not great. Better then the Romans but I'm not sure that says much.
