Russia's most significant opposition leader for the past decade, Alexei Navalny, has died in prison inside the Arctic Circle, Russian news agencies report, quoting the prison service.

Seen as President Vladimir Putin's most vociferous critic, Navalny was serving a 19-year jail term for offences widely considered politically motivated.
He was moved to an Arctic penal colony, considered one of the toughest jails, late last year.
The prison service in the Yamalo-Nenets district said he had "felt unwell" after a walk on Friday.
He had "almost immediately lost consciousness", it said in a statement. The causes of his death were being established, Tass news agency reported.

Probably nothing will happen. The population I imagine is being told in their state run news, that he was a radical nut. And that he tried to damage Russia

Anyone who doesn't believe the news, is too scared to speak up about it

If the fact that Putin has rewritten the constitution to allow himself to be president for life and several hundred thousand soldiers have been killed or maimed in a genocidal war wasn't enough to do anything, this certainly won't.

Every American or European politician that says anything positive about Russia needs to be taken to the places where they committed atrocities. If they still go with that take, they need to be kicked out to Russia.

Right now Russia is what Trump dreams USA will become under him. A nation of brainwashed and heavily controlled zombies. Too bad for Trump that he's not smart like Putin is. But then again, Putin is doing everything he can to put Trump back in power.

Don't feel sorry for Navalny. He was a trash person too, and really worse than Putin in a lot of ways - he just didn't have the power and allies to back it up. He was farther right wing, more racist, more nationalist, and more imperial than Putin.

The only reason the tankies and left in general liked him was because he was against Putin, that's it.

Russia is so far gone by now, that I don't think even getting utterly destroyed in a nuclear war would fix what little of it would be left afterwards, though at least that would get them out of everybody's hair.

Surprised they didn't kill him off sooner. Did Tucker ask about his fraudulent prison sentence in that sham interview?
I know the guy meant well and wanted to help the Russian people, but major political opponents of Putin like him really should not be stepping foot in Russia while Putler's still in power, this end result is all it accomplishes. :(

No one on the left liked Navalny, and "tankies" aren't particularly against Putin to begin with, they are more ambivalent on Russia while loving China.
