Anyways, Unicorn Overlord is Ogre Battle 2, but with Vanillaware presentation and FFT atmosphere. All you really need to know in regards to whether it should interest you or not.

This would have been during full Johns and and Tomasi fever when they were the hottest thing since sliced bread, GL was dominating. A couple years later and even Larfleeze could have been in the top 25.

It's difficulty to convey for those who weren't all in at the time what a fucking movement that Johns GL run was. Blackest Night felt like the fucking Olympics for comic events.

Mainly an issue of directing yeah. The actual voices themselves aren't the problem, they're just reading completely flat.

Really? I thought it was pretty unbearable. Same for what little I've played of Triangle Strategy so far, still haven't gotten past the second mission because there are sooo many flat, uninteresting cutscenes (though I do have a strong drive to get back to that one, just have to get past that barrier).

I've seen a LOT of praise for OT2 since it's release, and that's still going on today. It's more than enough to have me interested.

However, the first Octopath got a decent amount of praise too, and I thought that game was truly horrendous. I reaaaaaally didn't like it. A lot of the people I'm seeing praise OT2 are people who also thought the first one was good, so that makes this hard to take at face value.

I really wanna know if that could maybe change here for the sequel. Here's what I disliked about OT1 for reference.

• Voice acting was terrible, script was dull, repetitive, and generic. Nothing in the game gave me any drive to continue forward whatsoever.

• Party dynamic is extremely important for me in a jRPG, more than even the main plot. OT1 basically didn't even have party due to it's structure, for all intents and purposes it was just people who happened to be together on your combat screen. I want my characters to talk together, feel like they're meant to be together in scenes, actually feel like a group. Preferably it's indistinguishable from a game where you don't add characters into your party at undetermined points in time. For the extreme comparison, I felt even Cold Steel 2 suffered harshly from being able to take a limited number of characters of your choice to any particular event.

Anything other than this was a nitpick I could get over.

It's incredible how much John Oliver has completely surpassed all his TDS/TCB contemporaries in terms of actual journalism.

Would say Storm is above Beast today, yes. Not in the 90s. She's a woman that isn't Wonder Woman so pre-2000s means she's getting no casual play at all.

Beast was on some of those lunch boxes.

Would put Storm below Wolverine, Cyclops, Professor X, Magneto, and Beast at least. She's above Gambit level I think, which is still decent in general by X-Men standards. No doubt she's the most well known female X-Men though.....with the movies now though that might be Mystique just through them pushing her so damn hard.

Definitely giving Storm too much credit.

Needed a higher refresh rate, and this was the sale during Amazon Week.

My previous TV was a decade old Plasma.

What a game starts out as is based on your systems level settings.

I just don't even know what people mean when they say something like this looks bad anymore. I'm playing Performance on a 4K TV and it looks amazing. When I turn it to graphics it looks......exactly the same, except it runs worse. I can't tell the difference in resolution at all.

I like the idea, at least. Just needs more going on, like multiple qualifiers in the same Gambit.

I don't think these FF7R games have great voice acting, yeah.

It's....kind of rough all around? Some of the VAs are good, but the directing is weird.

The healing items since teleports heal you more than enough?

You can use these in SU now, so they're actually useful if you're not running certain sustains!

I played Rebirth for a couple hours last night and I am enjoying myself just fine

But almost the entire time I was playing my mind was just going "I wish I could boot up Unicorn Overlord right now..."

I could start a new save, but I'd just be shooting myself in the foot if I don't try to bear Rebirth before it comes out.

Useful info I got from the event is that the Bronya Come is fine but probably not worth using over Dance Dance Dance for Sparkle. There's already so much damage up there to begin with, and Sparkle never once had "almost" max energy when I was playing.

Not to mention she gets the same energy from her Basic as she does her Skill.

Also did it with Himeko replacing Silver Wolf....I really wish Himeko's talent could roll over like Xueyi's.

500 hours probably covers the full MSW plus every single primary piece of side content.

I'm getting a tutorial for the card game before I get to actually play the game with my present day character and gain a single point of exp.

Something like Unicorn Overlord where it's literally just "here's the first 8 hours of the game and you keep playing when it comes out" is excellent, but I mostly agree for all traditional demos.

I only played this because it told me I could skip the section in retail, which was a half truth.

Ohhhhhh the demo skip sucks ass.

You still have to do basically all the tedious walk and talk stuff I wanted to skip the most.

You can skip until after the credits roll and it just skips the big gameplay chunk on the mountain.

Decided not to pull the Sparkle LC.

Her LC is great, but I have a second Bronya LC leveled and it seems like it's almost as good anyways. Just not worth it to lose my guaranteed Acheron Card (which she desperately wants).

Technically yeah, but that would suck ass.

You literally never grind in XIV during a regular playthrough.

In fact, the issue is that you get too much EXP, so if you don't change jobs during the story you're going to be throwing a bunch away.

It's daunting! It's not like I don't understand. Before playing XIV I completely wrote it off for its genre and KNEW I wouldn't like it. Certainly never expected it would be the best FF game with the best story and characters.
