Not voting for Biden is stupid, because it inevitably helps Trump to be elected again. Trump, a tyrant in every aspect!

People, who don't vote for Biden just because they disagree with him on one or two topics, are dumb, sorry. Trump will hurt the US, all democratic countries across the globe, and millions of people if he's being elected again. If you can't see what's at stake here, compromise, and vote for the 100x better option, I don't know what to say.

SJP on my campus openly endorsed the oct 7 attack

Literally they said it wasn't a terror attack and that it was resistance and that they supported resistance in all forms.
And that is exactly what I meant in my previous post. It's one thing - and totally legit and rightful! - to pray for Palestine civilians and condemn what Netanyahu and his regime is doing in Gaza. But it's not okay to delegitimize the terrorism on oct 7, to legitimize Hamas, or generally spread hate of Jews at the same time. But this stance can be seen from many participants of these pro-Palestine protest movements, unfortunately. I find that worrying.

Being pro-Palestine is quite taboo in the US it seems.
Personally, I think it would be good if people didn't constantly take simple pro or con stances, but instead stood up for generally valid principles.

One of the biggest problems with such protest movements is that they can be influenced or even taken over by outside propagandists. What I mean is basically what the person below me wrote:

emblem-man posted...
You have outside people joining the protest with some really bad actual antisemitic language, and it's badly coloring the more peaceful protests which is unfortunate.
Whole thing is looking like a shit show it seems

I wish there was a stronger protest movement "for peace" or "against terror". Or at least more nuances movements like "against Netanyahu and his government" and at the same time "against hamas".
Being "pro-Palestine" is not wrong per se, but among the people who participate on these movements there are unfortunately always some, who spread hatred of Jews or deny the State of Israel their right to exist.

They undermine the protest movement and promote the conflict. Which is the opposite decent humans should aim for. The aim should be de-escalation and a holistic understanding of the conflict, not an increasingly one-sided intake of information. This only encourages radicalization.

It is my observation, probably due to excessive usage of social media, that more and more people are unable to see and discuss about a conflict while trying to understand both sides (and the conflict as a whole).

This is a shockingly myopic view of the proxy war that's been orchestrated by Iran for the last two decades.

In a broad sense, there are two types of nations in the Middle East. Stable nations with functional economies who collaborate with the international community. This is your Saudi Arabias, Israels, Iraqs, Qatars, Omans, ect.

Then there are you broken states run by fundamentalist military juntas or terrorist organizations. They have nearly non-existant economies and their only significant interactions with the international communities is exporting raw resources and taking international aid. This is your Yemens, Syrias, Jordans, ect.

Essentially every stable country hates Iran, and every broken country works with Iran. This is because Iran has been funnelling tons of weapons, ammo, and military advisors into the hands of the absolute worst actors in basically every cobflict zone in the Middle East, including Hezbollah and Hamas, which is directly relevant to Israel. Iran is an enemy to stability and peace in the region. There is simply no other way to put it.

Iran has essentially been firing rockets into Israel for literal decades now. Think of all the Israeli deaths that Iran is directly responsible for over the years. If there was no Iran, there would be no massive Hamas terrorist attack. They would not have had the weapons and training necessary to embolden them so, and the likely explicit backing of Iran behind the scenes. While I fundamentally disagree with Israel's approach to Palestine, it is utterly absurd and hypocritical to look at this situation and say "Well, Israel should have just not provoked Iran!"
Great post. Good to see some common sense here on CE.
Edit: I'd put Jordan to the former group, though.

Pledging to not vote at all or vote third party is a problem. Even if Bidens israel stance doesnt improve, hes still the better option than Trump. I will vote for Biden, and anyone who doesnt is complicit if Trump wins.

This right here is the most teeth grinding, hair-pullingly infuriating thing about abstaining voters.

I'm sorry that Trump warped the fabric of modern politics so irrevocably that now realistically the only choices we have is fascism and not fascism. But, yes, him being that fucking bad is the whole fucking point.

Biden didn't have to "earn my vote" because I'm not complicit in a fucking fascist rise to power. Biden didn't have to "earn my vote" because I can see the big picture and I'm not so far up my own ass that I'm going to sit be cool with my LGBT, non white, non religious friends and family be persecuted by an aspiring fascist.

It's that fucking simple. I'm not voting for Biden, I am voting against Trump. If you believe a 3rd party is the answer, you're a fool. And just as culpable if Trump wins.

I can't find the post but someone else said this ITT that I really like:

"Why is it never the GOP that has to change?"

THERE ARE TWO OUTCOMES.
Outcome 1: Biden is elected. Things continue pretty much as they are, but theres at least some hope of getting somewhere.
Outcome 2: Trump is elected. Netanyahu gets carte blanche to do whatever he wants. Putin gets carte blanche to do what he wants. Trans genocide gets a go-ahead. Reproductive rights go on the trash heap. Project 25 is a go. Goodbye elections.
There is no magic outcome 3 where neither wins and a magical unicorn descends from the sky and farts out magic socialism.

Glad to see some users with common sense here.

This is the most important election ever. Anyone who doesn't want to see the democratic world falling apart needs to vote for Biden. Even if he's not perfect, but there is no alternative. Biden must win at all costs.

There was an interview with him only few days ago where he said "At Swatch, we don't want to sell stocks, we want to sell watches". That's all you need to know about him. Selling affordable watches of decent quality has always been their main focus. It paid off and still does, because people have trust in Hayek and his way of handling the company.

This is how I see it.

Also there is a distinctive difference between "Israel" and "Israel's government". The path Netanyahu and his government chose to go is clearly wrong and should be condemned. However, forgetting about what Hamas did to innocent Israeli civilians as well as the historically difficult situation for jews on the Arabic peninsula should not be forgotten as well.

Too many people, even on this site, are simplyfying this conflict and its complexity. It is absolutely human to feel sad for Palestine civilian casualties and it is absolutely right to condemn the way Netanyahu and his government acts. But it is not okay if it leads to general hate against "Israel" (the whole state) or jews, because there are also many innocents among them!

It is a typical phenomenon of the internet, that people take a side and are either for or against something. But conflicts aren't always so easy to explain and solve.

Interesting how everything you say is either just asking dumb questions or making vague references that attempt to sound witty without making any point at all nor actually explaining anything.

Biden will go down as the president who stopped Trump from destroying America. The one who fixed as many of Trumps mistakes as he could. Did his best to remedy the student debt issue, invested in much needed infrastructure. He lowered drug prices, record workforce participation, drastically lowered the number of people without insurance, etc? He definitely isn't going to be remembered as the guy who incited an insurrection though.

What do you have against arming Ukraine to fight off Russia? Keeping Americans safe at home not only helps Americans, but has also prevented ww3 and nuclear war with Russia.

Yeah, not only will he "insult" more than half the people, but he will genocide trans people, remove LGBTQ protections, take away rights from women and minorities, dismantle the Justice system, and so on. How do you feel about project 2025?

At this point I'm not sure who you're talking about. Trump is the one who is fat, old, obese, and clearly not in his right mind (if he ever was) and not only looks like he isn't happy to be alive after finally being held accountable for his crimes, and regularly doesn't know what year it is, or what's going on at all. Makes Bidens stutter and occasional gaffe seem normal. Especially seeing as Biden is in MUCH better physical health than the orange ooompaloompa.

It's not a low blow attacking either of their ages. They're both too old to be in office. It'd be nice if Trump could maybe give up on Taking over America so Dems could run somebody else without risking the country, you know?

Conviction, backbone, and charisma you say? While I'm 99% sure you're doing your best to troll as blatantly as possible, this is beyond messed up. Trump is possibly going to ruin the fucking world and you think it's funny to troll over? Or even worse... you actually support him? You've been conned by him and his people and are just fine with all the horrible things he says he will do?

I don't think I'll ever understand MAGA, or even just the people that troll with this shit. Trump hypothetically gets elected again and locks up his political opponents, invades Mexico, brings back firing squads, destroys the environment, all of project 2025, and worse, amd this is either something you endorse at worst or find funny to troll over at best?

This shit is why this country is so fucking horrible right now.
I couldn't have said it better, thanks.
