i read that they artificially limit supply. You can go into most omega and breitling stores and buy that watch right there on display with rolex you usually can not.

Is it artificially limiting supply or not mass producing their watches? Because keeping the supply low is probably better for the environment on something that is mostly obsolete.

Any jeweller worth repairing your Rolex with will be accredited by Rolex themselves, which is also the only way to get genuine parts.

On topic: yes, but only if you don't count the Apple Watch, which is a contentious subject in the watch community. Even non watch people know of Rolex, it's one of the few universal signs of luxury along with things like luxury cars or mansions. On top of that, the Submariner is the most copied watch in the world, both in terms of fakes and watches that draw a clear inspiration.

As nice as they are though, they're 100% mass produced. They make something like a million watches a year.

As for an Apple Watch, it can't be a status symbol if everyone has one. Status symbols imply exclusivity and an Apple Watch has none.

I'd say Rolex/Casio for people not into watches, and Seiko/Casio for people into watches. Seiko is IMO a good place to start for mechanical pieces, to feel out what you like/how deep you want to dive into the world for not too much cash. The majority of my mechanical pieces are Seiko, or have Seiko movements inside, and are acting as the springboard towards regulating, servicing, and potentially building and modding my own.

What he means is that Rolex might simply only create a small number of watches due to the fact that the watches are legitimately works of fine craftsmanship made by hand, and its hard to make more without sacrificing quality.

Compare it to nintendo who never actually make an appropriate amount of their products even through they are mass produced trash from chinese or taiwanese manufacturers and all their products are made in sweatshops. Nintendo does it specifically to drum up demand due to artificial shortages.

Nintendo even does it on digital releases which take literally no resources!

Its not an actual high quality watch with moving parts. Its not a work of art you can pass down for generations. Its a cheap to mass produce trashcan-tier computer made in a sweatshop that will die or be obsolete in a few years while also being a burden on the planet due to requiring rare earth elements and other precious materials.

Nothing. They're doing good. Their boss Nick Hayek is very popular here in Switzerland. Why? Because he doesn't care too much about the stock market and what so-called business analysts want him to do. There was an interview with him only few days ago where he said "At Swatch, we don't want to sell stocks, we want to sell watches". That's all you need to know about him. Selling affordable watches of decent quality has always been their main focus. It paid off and still does, because people have trust in Hayek and his way of handling the company.
