Most adults I know that delved into tik tok have now returned to reels or YouTube shorts. The market has become quite a bit more competitive for short format videos

Define "use"

I used to use twitter to quickly search for up-to-the-minute sports news, but you can't do that anymore without an account. If that counts as using twitter then I am definitely a part of that, I imagine many others are as well

Yeah, closing off any search function to the public was a really stupid move. It basically killed off Twitter's reach to the public and now the site is a slow death spiral since it won't really get any new users.

Probably helps its the most viewable of social media websites without an account. This helps with a lot of things such as businesses who want their stuff to be most available to the general public. Twitter used to be really available to someone without an account but Musk fucked everything up.

X is a total shitshow. I used to use twitter for NBA news, but I was constantly getting real life gore on the front page and I was like nah Im good and deleted the app.

I ditched the bird app completely after I reported some account with a literal swastika as avatar and handle that read 'KILLTHE*slur*NOW' and got a mail saying that they didn't see anything wrong with that account.

Browsing Facebook without an account is still not ideal, but you can close out the big log in question when you look a business pages. It still brings up an annoying log in bar at the bottom though. Don't get me wrong, its still garbage but its better than the other social media sites where what you can see without an account is usually less.

Bluesky used to be a hub for those on the far left, but now more people from Twitter seem to be moving over there including a number of Japanese artists I've been following. The only folks who aren't very popular in Bluesky are the right-wingers.

It's still missing a few features like hash tags but they have a regular full text search you can use in the meantime. The lack of hashtags though means you can't really see what's trending as easily.

Musk wanted to rebrand Paypal as "X" but was shot down because
  1. It's a stupid name (unless you're a Maverick hunting robot)

It's because Elon never grew out of his edgelord teenager phase so he still thinks adding X to everything is cool and trendy

granted almost everyone still refers to it as twitter, says tweet and just ignores the brand change since yes.. it was a stupid decision on his part
