Fun fact (which most people probably know about, but still): No NPC trainer in any of the Gen 1 games ever used Golem on their team. Meaning that--taking into account the other choices between Pokemon players made (starters, the Hitmons, the Fossils, the Eeveelutions)--it's the only Pokemon that you are guaranteed to never see unless you got one yourself. I think originally SF3 was going to be a new IP, but changed it because SF2 was so successful. The big issue is that a lot of people didn't like that SF3 opted for a whole brand new cast of characters and villains, so they hastily put Ken and Ryu in. SF3 would end up bombing financially (though critically it's considered one of the best fighting games ever), so when they made SF4 they wanted to loosen ties they had with third game by having it closer to home with SF2, hence story wise they made it more similar to not piss off the fanbase.I think at the time, Capcom was actually strongly considering making "SF3" be the game that ended up being SF The Movie: The Game.
