Like basically any game with a structure of stages and bosses ceases being Atari style.
It doesn't differentiate it much to me, it still feels like an arcade game.

Mega Man for example does not feel next gen at al. Metal Slug, Contra, Ninja Garden, etc. Even Metroid feels archaic due to the password system alone. Mario though feels totally modern.

Pokemon (if we're treating GB as the NES generation equivalent) is also completely modern. There's such a a huge gulf between that and Mega Man.

There's probably over 100 2d games on PSX and N64 combined. It's not remotely an extinction event as was said with the super simple games of Gen 1-2.
What are 3 popular ones? I literally can't think of them. But the exception does prove the rule.

The NES catalog was majority Atari style games but better graphics, the advanced games were the exception. SNES is when the simple games actually became extinct.

The crash is a good argument for 3 though. It did turn an industry from a dying fad into a permanent medium of the entertainment.

On that angle though, I think gen 6 turned it into THE medium of our generation and the most profitable form of entertainment.

I don't really. It still feels like a more advanced arcade game.

The fancy ones that saved your games do feel like a big step into the future though. That top tier of games was pretty much like modern gaming. But the majority of NES games still feel super outdated.

Where else would he have learned about Jenova, considering everyone he knew who would know lied to him about it and all the files on the experiment only exist in the Shinra manor (maybe Gast or Hojo had more, but again they were lying to him)
They clearly brief him on super confidential stuff all the time (e.g. Hojo's experiments), and he has limitless access to places like the manor's library. If that's really the only place with that info then that makes sense, but that's unlikely.

The fallacy here is that, yes, there are enough stupid people to keep stupid corporate bullshit afloat. A proper strategy can't rely on repeat business from those few stupid people.

I mostly think it shows how dumb Sephiroth is. It took him 30+ years to figure out who his mom was? He didn't question it at all until seeing a sign on a door? He's never read a book before? He has the backstory of a typical 14 year old protagonist who goes on to save the world, but because he only discovered this during his mid-life crisis, he became a villain.

Is the whole thesis of FF7 that ignorant middle aged men are the most dangerous people?

I havent seen how big the world is yet but it's not really unheard of. Xenoblade did it on the Wii, which is insane. Here the SSD is fast enough to be used as a really large cache for streaming so it's near instant. It's like what Spiderman's fast travel does which people thought was impossible.

The problem with reloading is it's not just streaming data from the SSD, it has to run the whole world loading process again, tons of different functions to reset things. That can take a long time and hardware can't really help.

Fast travel probably isn't reloading the state of the world, just moving you. Retrying stuff has to basically reload the game so that it can start fresh, which can be very slow.

ZenOfThunder posted...
we are in for several years of low effort scams and grifts, more than we ever thought possible.
Problem is, this doesn't pass even a 5 second smell test.

Look at the example you're using to come to this conclusion. A tiny single day event event that even if done "properly" would've been super mediocre. No one heard of it until well after it happened. Maybe thousands of dollars spent on tickets total.

Compare to Fyre Festival, which had months of top-tier advertising, even your mom heard of it. People wasted millions on it. It literally starved its guests and nearly killed them.

Fyre happened many years before generative AI, and Wonka happened about 2 years after AI advanced far enough to create those fake images and stories (I know the ads used DALLE3 but you could get similar looking images with Stable Diffusion 1, and text with GPT3).

So how can look at an event that's not even 1/1000th as bad as Fyre, and it took over 2 years of the tech being open to billions just to generate ONE decent twitter-threadable scam, and then conclude that OBVIOUSLY scams are getting worse and more common?

It makes no sense and shows lack of understanding in the tech and especially the economics of scams. It's some sort of wishful thinking or confirmation bias that gen AI is the one true destroyer of our society, if only we stopped it we'd be back to "normal" (aka 2021, the best year ever).

My runs are super polarized still which is why I'm mostly turned off from the game. I had a run where I was making 2.5m scoring hands if I got the right cards, or 100k if I didn't. And then the next run I struggled to make 50k and lost quickly. Some people like that but I like more steady progression.

I've had Razers and hate them deeply. My favorite now is Steelseries Sensei. But my all time favorite was a Logitech office mouse kinda one.

I do think 5 buttons is the absolute minimum, since you can navigate forward/back and you will definitely use them in games. Buttons 6 and 7 are occasionally useful but not a priority.

You really do get plenty of locusts, so it's not a huge problem. On my run, I got close to game over a couple times but that's it. And yes you can always use a guide if you need to ensure you survive.

Ultimately this game does not coddle you, and it's comfortable with you getting stuck or frustrated and quitting. It believes this is the only way to make the victories actually feel significant, and it's right.

It also means that you can use any tool in your disposal to win. There is no honor here, just pure challenge. When you beat this game, you actually BEAT it. I can't think of any recent game that does this. Undertale Genocide is closest.
