Comparing "active users" from one site to another doesn't work. Each site has a different metric for what is considered an active user. Right now GameFAQs says it has 983 currently registered users on the site. Resetera says it has 2,147.

Despite having supposedly over double the users, the boards don't move that fast there (and remember, there are only 4 there compared to thousands of active boards on GameFAQs).

Resetera is either cooking the books and/or GameFAQs is really conservative with what is an active user.

GameFAQs has essentially been passed from corporation to corporation. Eventually, one expects an owner to look for things to cut and these boards may be on the chopping block. I'm not too sure they will do that because the social boards are really just a small part of GameFAQs.

Most boards are video game related and having an always active forum for games essentially allows users to post free info about the game to raise the sites profile. This is especially important since actual game guides are posted way less than they were in the past. GameFAQs is nowhere as popular as its peak the cost of hosting the site is likely way less than most sites because its mostly text based. GameFAQs also shows up surprisingly frequently in web searches because most people use closed gardens now that are not really browseable by search engines (i.e. Tiktok and Facekbook).

I do think the 2024 election is the biggest near future chance of the social boards closing down since "controversy" has caused other websites to close boards.

IMDb forums dying was a tragedy. They sucked for new and popular movies, but were a great resource for old movies. After they closed them, decades of info was scattered into the wind.

It is trending because it is a horny game. That doesn't mean the gameplay is bad though.

Don't know why Vanillaware hates PCs so much. They must have some high up moron in the company that believes in 20 year old logic about PC games and pirates that was never true in the first place.

Hell, they even released Unicorn Overlord game on Xbox. I guarantee you the return on releasing on PC would be much higher than Xbox.

Wonder if it will get in because they have made some rather questionable choices for nominees and inductees in the past. For example FIFA International Soccer has been nominated three times already. It took them 8 years to put Ocarina of Time (probably the biggest foundation for modern 3D games) in the Hall of Fame.

For multi-housing buildings they are a necessary evil. For single housing buildings they are a huge racket that usually funnels money to the friends of people who run the board (i.e. paying for overpriced landscaping).

I remember in the original trailer all the zombies were black. Capcom got backlash and then added white zombies to the final game.

From my understanding both Garriott and EA are responsible. Garriott admitted that EA didn't force them to rush 8 out with all the horrible bugs in it. EA was in part responsible for messing up 9 because they took developers off it to work on the highly successful Ultima Online which put 9 in development hell.

That said, I'm don't think Garriott has it in him anymore to direct a good game. Ever since he literally went into space, all his attempts at video games seem to have been half assed. I think he abandoned Shroud of the Avatar pretty quickly and tried to save face by saying the game was now in the hands of the fans. Apparently his last idea for a game involved fucking NFTs and it quickly became vaporware.

So apparently Richard Garriott (The creator of Ultima) managed to to hold on to the rights of the Lord British character even after he sold the series to EA. That doesn't seem like that big of a problem if a new Ultima game is made (I know Lord British is a huge part of the games, but they can be done with him).

That said, it makes me wonder if Garriott also owns any other aspects of the series which would make a new Ultima game unlikely unless Garriott and EA are able to hash out an agreement. (Of course, the most likely reason for Ultima being a dead series is EA being inept at managing their IPs).
