ff4-10 was the peak of the series. FF11 is the best mmo of all time, and probably the best game in the series

It has a bit more of a goofy story, but characters are alright and the jobs system made it one of the most fun battle systems. Also great music.

Its not my favorite. I grew up on the SNES and NES US releases and was excited to play it when It came out on the PS1. Felt underwhelming the first time. Dont dislike it and get the appeal but not one of my favorites. Its also the pixel remaster I am currently working on.

5 is a great game! I enjoyed the game being more lighthearted. The silly things like naming the villain Xdeath is rather hilarious for an over the top name.

Way better than 6. But I'm in the minority for thinking FFVI isn't a masterpiece.

The mechanics of the game are really good. Using the right status effects or immunities can absolutely destroy bosses. Strategies and combos allow for a lot more tactical, purposeful play than just fighting every battle, getting a bunch of levels, and pressing the "big damage" and "big healing" buttons in alternation until you win. It's really amazing for a LLG or challenge runs for this reason.

I played the GBA version, which had a fun and lighthearted script with a good translation/localization. Not sure how it is in newer versions compared to that and which is considered the best.

For comparison, I did not like FFIV or FFVII but did like FFVI quite a bit. I have replayed FFV the most of any Final Fantasy game.

It's one of my favorites in the series and there's very little nostalgia factor in that - I played it previously but only properly beat it last year with the Pixel Remaster

All the tactics fans should at least appreciate it for polishing the job the system from 3 and making it more complex/fun than it was in 3

I'd call it solid. Like a lot of people have been saying, its biggest strength is the gameplay. Good implementation of the jobs, with a lot of different ways to approach things. The story feels fitting for a Saturday morning cartoon, with both the upsides and downsides that entails.

If you do get into it, something to keep in mind is that there are a lot of missables (including some items that are rare enemy drops). I wound up abandoning my last playthrough when I found out I'd completely missed a Bard song, for example.

Giving it a bit more thought its not the story thats off for me, its the tone. I dont like the tone, but that doesnt mean its bad.

It's a good game that, like Trials of Mana, should've gotten a proper stateside SNES release so that I could've grown up loving it. It can't really compete with VI on my personal favorites list, but I at least liked it quite a bit better than IV.
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.

Good game, but IMO, weak amongst most of the series.

But that will absolutely come down to how much you emphasize on story vs gameplay mechanics. FF5 has a fairly weak story, but very good (for the time) battle mechanics.

Best dungeon design in the 2D games. Some of the best bosses. Nearly infinite customization. Yeah, its a good game.
