Yes I carry cash and I keep cash at home because I do not trust the digital age of money and these banks etc can prevent you from accessing cash from an atm by claiming to have a computer glitch so I always keep cash in my home and in my pocket. After Covid, who knows what may come next.

Yes, but it's not my usual method of payment.

I usually have a bit of cash on me, but the vast majority of my transactions are debit/credit.

All my cash is home stacked like drug dealers, i keep just enough in my accounts for bills payments.

I haven't carried cash on me since my trip to the west coast last year, and even then, half the stores didn't accept cash. Even though they "are legally required to do so".

I'll probably have some on hand for the comic book convention I am going to in a couple of weeks. Doubt most of the vendors will have tablets with square handy.

I use credit for most things, but still use cash for fast food/food delivery and most person-to-person transactions (like paying my local handyman).

I don't think I've ever encountered a store that didn't take cash.

I generally have money on me for a variety of reasons, the main three being
1) as a currency collector, I'm always ready to buy(for face value) when I see a note at work I want(Cashier)
2) I like to tip at restaurants or whatever in cash
3) in case I am somewhere and the credit/debit system isn't working. This hasn't happened in a while, but it is a valid reason to be prepared, since working retail I see this happen in my own store 1-2 times a year.
I went from always using cash to hardly ever using it. I don't carry cash on me unless needed.

Maybe this is an ignorant view of the situation but if I was alive back when they were actually redeemable for silver, how in the heck is that not a trade I do almost every time? I've never had a good grasp on how they actually worked back in those days, despite being a currency collector and owning a few silver certs.

Because back then the silver in a silver dollar was only worth $1. So your choice was carrying around a wallet filled with paper bills, or a big sack full of coins.

I always have cash on me. You never know when you might go somewhere that you can't use your debit card in and my take-aways require cash to pay.

I mostly use debit. I can go long periods without carrying any cash at all. I usually only take out cash for specific needs, like barbershop or pharmacy delivery co-pays.

I don't recommend stashing cash at home for very long periods of time, because of inflation, but if you're not investing it or putting it into an account that accrues interest, then I guess it doesn't really matter where and how you keep it.

I carry enough cash to pay the farrier ($70 every 6 weeks) and to buy my monthly lottery ticket (a Lucky for Life ticket good for 28 draws, $56). I could pay the farrier with a check if I had to, but I know they prefer cash.

Everything else I either pay by credit card (and get that sweet, sweet 1-5% rebate), or on rare occasions, by check. It's kind of a shame I don't use my checks more often, since I bought custom checks with cute photos of my animals.

Oh yeah, I also carry a $50 bill that I folded up and tucked into one of the side pockets of my wallet. I always forget I have it. One time I had to take a cab home from Omaha and it cost $50 with tip. Not sure if $50 will get me home anymore, but it'll get me a lot farther than an empty wallet.

Most handymen and laborers prefer cash because it lets them fudge income for tax purposes. No paper trail means you can underreport.

I am kind of surprised that (non-certified) checks are still a thing. Most places refuse to take them for major purchases and everyplace that does usually allows credit/debit cards which are way more convenient. I have used the same book of checks since 2012, and it is still like half full.

I sometimes use personal checked for rent Its works well. But I just pay the landlord, so its whatever. Its a cashiers check if I dont have personal ones, though Or if I have too much in cash from my roommate

They're still useful for bill payments (for people who don't want to use digital payment). They're not really for day-to-day transactions for most people at this point.

Last I heard, something like 30% of people still use them though. So companies can't outright stop accepting them yet.

I always use a check when I pay my car registration, because they charge an extra 1.5% for credit/debit cards.

The day I only use debit cards is the day I just buy everything online, and I'm not there yet.

It depends where you live; in some cities here, it is a bad idea to walk around with more than $50 whereas in some places, it is perfectly okay to walk around town with more than $5000. Having a credit card is great and all but sometimes, some places just don't accept it and it could be a restaurant and they can accuse you of dine and dash. If you use your debit card, it isn't secure enough as that there is a small chance all the money in your bank account and vanish into thin air. That's why cash is important in life wherever you are.

What country do you live in that banks dont cover you against financial fraud as standard?

There's a few here in ABQ that don't. Not uncommon for street vendors and smaller operations to also not accept these days.

I usually carry $40-100 on me, for any such occasions where ONLY cash is accepted. But I never use it these days otherwise.
