Bravo to France.
Stop giving your kids such stupid fucking names. Heck the examples in post #4 aren't even close to the stupid shit that people name kids in the U.S. The standard's so low here that those all sound fairly reasonable.
However, the country is making headlines for a recent case in which parents decided to name their daughter Liam . While unisex names are common in the Western countries, the name is traditionally given to boys -- and only boys, believes French prosecutors.
I've seen dudes named Ashley and Lindsey before. Not sure what the deal is here.

And Kelley, too...
I like the Danish on this one... Basically, if the name isn't from a pre-approved list it's banned. Too many kids have edge lord parents that end up selfishly fucking them over. I'm glad somebody is compassionate.
Thankfully we live in a free nation like America where we can name our daughters Megatron.

Which means that, at some point, somebody gave their daughter a guy's name. It would appear the world has not yet burst into flame, so I guess it worked out alright.

Agreed but then that is France's fear.
My parents gave me a boys name but it is so obscure that most people think it is a nickname and they don't even associate it with being a boys name. I like my name though.

My friend worked at GS, and some neckbeard tried boasting to her about naming his kids Tidus and Auron, but she had no filter and just said "wow! Your kids are gonna hate you!" He got all defensive and blurted out "well people call their kids Mario and Luigi..." She shut him down with a "maybe they're just Italian." He promptly paid for his items and left.

Kinda depends on how much they like the games. I should also mention that Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda and she's been pretty ok with it >_>

Don't know where you got that idea.
I'm going to name my firstborn Xx_420blazeit_xX
No, it's just stupid. Nothing to do with liberals or any of that nonsense, it's a girl and that name is going to get them teased like every other dumb 'trendy' name that parents use these days.
Now get off my lawn.

"Under French law, a court can ban parents from giving their child a name that they deem to be against the childs interest. In recent years, courts in France have intervened to prevent children from being named Nutella, Fraise (French for strawberry), Joyeux (French for happy), MJ (after Michael Jackson), Manhattan and Deamon, among others.
Ironically, this is actually representative of more lax regulations in France. Prior to 1993, parents had to choose a name from a government-mandated list of approved monikers, but that was scrapped under President Francois Mitterands administration."

Zelda is a name that long predates LoZ, though.

They probably seem less fine if you are French though...it would be basically the same as naming them Strawberry and Happy in English.
I kinda like Fraise.

True, but the French word for Joy is Joie.
