Bravo to France.

Stop giving your kids such stupid fucking names. Heck the examples in post #4 aren't even close to the stupid shit that people name kids in the U.S. The standard's so low here that those all sound fairly reasonable.

While in theory, the parents should name her whatever they want, considering the way society is now, no, it's not okay. If you don't name your child something "reasonable", you can open them up to possible bullying or discrimination.

However, the country is making headlines for a recent case in which parents decided to name their daughter Liam . While unisex names are common in the Western countries, the name is traditionally given to boys -- and only boys, believes French prosecutors.

You also have unisex names like Sam and Max, though they are usually shortened from something else. Like Samuel/Samantha & Maximilian/Maxine...

My friend worked at GS, and some neckbeard tried boasting to her about naming his kids Tidus and Auron, but she had no filter and just said "wow! Your kids are gonna hate you!" He got all defensive and blurted out "well people call their kids Mario and Luigi..." She shut him down with a "maybe they're just Italian." He promptly paid for his items and left.

Agreed but then that is France's fear.

My parents gave me a boys name but it is so obscure that most people think it is a nickname and they don't even associate it with being a boys name. I like my name though.

My first name is boring AF and very common, so everybody just called me by my obscure, poorly anglicized surname. It seemed popular and I will admit that made things fun.

Don't know where you got that idea.
Just give them a normal name and when they turn 18 or whatever tell them if they want to change their name to Moon Unit or Metta World Peace they're free to do so.

It isn't an idea I just came up with. They have changed to girl names over the years just like the more recent name "Madison" but during my grandfather's time they were considered masculine, then they were both for a bit. Now you will find many more girls with those names than boys.
