Sweets, mostly. I haven't really enjoyed sweet snacks or desserts since I was a kid. I'm much more likely to want a second helping of the main meal rather than a dessert if I've got a choice.

For everything else, I don't really hate anything intrinsically, as much as I hate its implementation. So, for instance, while I currently hate Doctor Who, I don't hate the concept of Doctor Who, and I still enjoy all of the old stories, I just think the modern incarnation of the show has been telling dogshit stories for more than a decade now.

Almost anything I can think of that I "hate" is mostly in that same vein - people today putting out shitty, inferior versions of the thing I used to love. But I still generally appreciate all of the same things I used to love if I can still interact with them in their original form.

I suppose you could potentially say "physical activities" (like playing soccer, volleyball, bowling, hiking, biking, etc) as a thing I used to love but now dislike. But even there it's less that I "dislike" it, and more that my old man body is too decrepit and if I tried to do most of those things now I would probably die.

I guess "Christmas" and "Birthday" could count as well, though I never really liked either of them in the first place. I mostly just liked getting cool new toys and/or money. And I still like that!

I like Animation, but I lost intrest in Japaneae animation. Mainly tired of the Harem and Waifu stuff. Plus I prefer anthro media over humans. So what ya said makes no sense. Kinda like I don't like Adult Animation when they rely on raunchy gags to be "adult".

There are anime fans that hate on other animation.

A good example. I remember one time some insane Anime Fan hated on Western Animation and call it all "American" and said Anime was better because it's "mature". Another weirdo I met told me not liking DBZ would "hurt" the creator's feelings.

Kid shows. I get the message but meh. Eating junk food but now having to watch what I eat. Disney movies up till lion king now I don't really watch any. The singing really rubs me the wrong way. Sponge Bob is still stupid like South Park. Never watched any. Use to have a small interest in sports but now I don't care for them. Watching people play is so 1960s. Now days too much goofing around.

Disneyland

I loved Disneyland when I was a kid. I had an annual pass for the longest time, back when they were totally reasonable. Now you can't even get a single day pass for what it used to cost to go all year.

And a lot of my favorite rides and attractions are gone. Adventure Thru Inner Space, Captain EO, America Sings, Mission to Mars, Circlevision 360, the PeopleMover, the Skyway, the Country Bear Jamboree, Tom Sawyer Island, the original Autopias, the original Submarine Voyage, the Mark III monorails

Also Disney World > Disneyland by far

YES! If it's not something I can watch for free on the internet, I usually just don't bother

I honestly hate the streaming service model, where you need like a dozen subscriptions
Cable was expensive, but you got everything in one package

I haven't watched TV regularly since like... the late 00s

Ironically, there are YouTube channels where you can essentially make your own Saturday morning.

Just get up at 7am on a Saturday, then throw a channel like this on:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl8G96YER84

Then don't skip anything, don't fast-forward past ads, don't pause. If you have to go to the bathroom or answer the phone, leave it running and just miss stuff.

For bonus points, go and buy some Cap'N Crunch or Fruity Pebbles or whatever other sugary kids' cereal you used to eat and eat a bowl of it while watching.

Then, for real authenticity, stop the video somewhere around noon, and switch to a channel that has college sports on it, to simulate the crushing depression most kids felt when Saturday morning ended.

(And try not to think about the fact that most of the kids in the various toy commercials are probably somewhere around 60 years old now.)

myghostisdead posted...

It's a function of being "spoiled for choice", combined with a bit of "choice paralysis", and the absence of FOMO.

In other words, the fact that you know you have a functionally infinite selection of media available, which you can watch at any time you want, means you never feel the pressure to watch anything right now. Which means that you're discouraged from watching anything because your brain is afraid of making the wrong choice, so it doesn't want to choose anything. Nothing feels special or important, so you mostly feel apathy rather than excitement.

It's part of why the aforementioned "Saturday Morning Cartoons" phenomenon died in the first place - Saturday mornings were special when you needed to get up early on Saturday to watch 6+ hours of cartoons, and you needed to pick and choose which ones you liked because you couldn't watch them all It felt more precious because most kids' programming was basically exiled to the weekend. But once channels like Nick and Disney began showing stuff for kids 24/7, and most things repeated fairly regularly, it became much easier to watch stuff, and thus, much less special. Streaming was just the next step in that chain.

Some of us never had to deal with that, because we were dealing with the alternate depression of being forced to get dressed up in fancy clothes and being dragged to Sunday School or church for a few hours. Or worst of all, both.

My one saving grace when I was really young is that my dad used to take me to get pancakes at a local diner afterwards. And the diner was near a private airport, so you could occasionally watch the planes taking off or landing, which was kind of neat.

As an adult? Maybe (I'd say it objectively sucks and always has, but I won't fight with people who love it).

As a child in the 80s? No. When you were a kid, college sports were universally terrible and boring. And the ultimate sign that the fun part of the day was now over and TV would be utterly worthless to you for the next two days (at least). It was the hard cut-off where you went from all of the major channels showing cartoons made explicitly for you to suddenly being a vast wasteland of nothing.

Unless you had a pathologically-obsessed sports dad who watched (and forced you to watch) and basically programmed you to love it as well (which I consider to be a form of child abuse), odds are you didn't give a shit about NCAA anything when you were 8 years old.
