But also I was surprised when I went to Germany you have to actually pay your tithes to legally claim to be a member of the church for tax or voting purposes or something. Makes sense but still lol. The idea of churches taxing people to worship is so silly to begin with

Well, not all churches are like this. I've been to a few different churches before and they usually pass a basket around and ask for you to give what you can and that's all. Don't have to give crap if you don't want to.

There are plenty of amazing Christians in the US. I just feel like this particular mutation is exclusive to America unless I'm mistaken.

What kind of denomination is that?

I hate the pressures some want to put on tithing in the US. Tithing is supposed to support the church operation and support the community.

It is not for certain pastures to get 10% of every person's salary so they can live a lavish lifestyle.

It's by no means exclusive, but it's almost certainly a lot more popular over here.

Bear in mind we were founded by people who were more or less booted out of Europe for being too weird about religion in a time when "weird about religion" was basically Europe's defining feature.

Reading the comments, it seems this guy has been like this for decades but people are unable to empathize with the people because it's their damn fault for following such a scumbag.

Going to these kinda church seems like a rich person's game. I could never afford it.

Basically an old poor widow donated an extremely small amount to a tithe and there were some rich assholes nearby mocking her and boasting about how much they donated. Jesus stepped in and was like "you gave something you wouldn't even notice if it was missing, but she is making a real sacrifice and has given more than you ever have."

Came in expecting a big hat. Left disappointed. What denomination/sect is this?

On Trinity Broadcasting Network, I once watched a con artist preacher promise people spots in heaven based on how much they sent him. $700 got you a shack, $7,000 got you a nice house, $70,000 got you a palace.

Strange that these divine real estate deals were never brought up in the Bible!

That's like most things in this world, it only takes a few bad apples to ruin everything for everyone

A lot of Xtianity is Properity Gospel. A lot of Xtianity takes their tithe very seriously to the point you get people like this guy and church's that call you out on paper for failing to tithe. Or there's the old fashioned "ye shall be cursed" but that doesn't have much effect once you test it and see nothing happens to you.

To be fair, he doesn't appear to be a bishop of any kind, but a gospel singer/megachurch pastor.

But regardless, an asshole.
