You know, those dudes who take a white canvas, paint it black, then draw a blue circle in the center of it.....and sell it for $200,000.

I am fully convinced that all of it is just a smokescreen for more devious exchanges happening behind the scenes.

People in positions of power who need to launder their money. Drugs. Human trafficking. Weapons. Bribes. Debts. Organized crime. You name it.

Large quantities of money exchanging hands. Just say it's for "art" and avoid the authorities.

What do you think?

There is obviously some money laundering going on, but I don't think it's all of it

I think you're severely understating the pretentiousness of the art community.

Money laundering? No.

It's definitely a massive scam, though. Arbitrary pricing, critics who've been repeatedly proven to be completely full of shit, "artists" who are better at BS than art - the whole thing is basically a massive con.

Modern art specifically, no, art in general has definitely become a huge money laundering front.

It could be. Then again, almost everything has become a way to rob people.

We already know for a fact that a lot of art is used for money laundering. If nothing else the whole NFT thing was proof of that.

But is all weird and unusual art used for money laundering? Absolutely not.

Like people made a big deal about the banana taped to a wall thing but we are still talking about it in modern day.

Some of it is probably? There are many people in this world are part of art scenes that are not laundering anything.

Im sure a good percentage of them are laundering transactions. Its an extremely low overhead, low effort way to launder money.

And unlike laundering money through a store front, theres no way for authorities to say hey wait a minute this painting isnt worth that much.

What about the AI art industry?

Anyone who spends money on AI art, are either funding the company that developed the AI, or they're silly monkeymuffins.
