I'm skeptical of the true nature of these protests, seems like a convenient way for the government to track and monitor opposition.

You dont have to register to show up at a No Kings event. Its not like theres somebody checking everyones phones to make sure they signed up, you just go downtown and join the crowd.

I think this fear is a bit overstated.

This is nothing but an unhinged conspiracy theory. There is no deeper nature to these protests beyond people coming together to voice their opposition against the Trump regime and fascism in the US government. It's not some kind of secret government tracking op. That is truly deranged.

I don't live in Murrica. I do live in a constitutional monarchy, but honestly I don't have anything against the (actual) king.

There's a very corporate, heavily marketed vibe to everything.

Because, as someone said, protests don't matter unless there's consequences. There has to be an aftermath of these No Kings protest aside from just peacefully protesting again at a later date. Financial consequences targetting the Republikkan supporters would be the easiest way to send a message.

Republikkkans don't care or have empathy so protests won't have any affect on them. The only thing that will make them bend at this point is personal violence or Dems getting control again and massively reigning them in.

"Harvesting data" lmfao. Mobilize is used to track RVSPs for an event so that the organizers can get a good estimate of the amount of people to expect. And yes, as emblem-man said, most groups have mailing lists that they want people to sign up to so they can send out info about upcoming protests and other events.

All I can say is what I witnessed during the 2020 protests was unsettling. Violence perpetrated by the far right to instigate more violence ... random ass cops showing up to start shit and make everyone look bad.

There was one specific instance where it was more or less confirmed that one of thes protests was confirmed to be organized ... or at the very least the domain names were owned by God damned MTG.

So from my perspective, it's less conspiracy and more obfuscated fact.
