I will never understand people who say FFX has bad voice acting

Sure it had bad lip synching and some weird lines

But the acting? Its near 25 years later and its STILL better than 99% of games

Tara Strong, John DiMaggio, JAT. These are GOAT tier VAs

Even Hedy Burress who was inexperienced as balls gave a decent performance

He is litterly talking about the time He was a blitzball star. The stuff with his parents effected him and his psyce. He is saying when he was around people he had to put on a face. The story of Yuna had the possible ending of her dying to Sin. He's telling her that the rest of the Journey she should do that. The laugh was him trying to get this across. That's pretty much it. Case closed.

There was a weird bias against Japanese games around that time and I think G4 had something to do with it

But being purposefully bad and annoying is still bad and annoying.

You can dislike it, but the people who used it as an example of FFX's bad dub shouldn't be using that as an example since it was done like that on purpose.

Just because it's supposed to sound bad, doesn't mean I'm not still going to make fun of it. Like, I still love the game, but that scene was so painful lol

I feel like you should go rewatch the scene since this is mostly unrelated or just straight up backwards.

it's yuna who tells him about how she has to practice being happy even when sad, it's yuna trying to cheer him up, and the laugh is basically a skeptical attempt to humour her when he is not in a laughing mood at all

And Tidus is down bad so instead of telling Yuna she's a stupid fucking idiot he indulges her.

Well she is undeniably much more intelligent than him.

The dig was mostly within the scope of her suggestion, lol. (Also the mild endearment doesn't come across through text, whoops >_>)

i think she does a fine job capturing the fact yuna is extremely depressed do to the fact she spent her entire life getting told her sole reason to exist is to sacrifice her self to make every one else happy

Just because something is meant to be baddoesnt stop it from being bad.

I watched way too much X-Play as a kid, I always interpreted the "we hate anime" thing as poking fun at the audience. Like, basically just trolling. I can think of many occasions where they praised Japanese games.

Some of those jokes have not aged well though, but 2000s humor was just edgy like sometimes. This was the era of the Man Show, Tripping the Rift, and Drawn Together.

okay, as someone whose watched all 5 seasons of Lucifer, no. Purposely cringe-inducing is still cringe-inducing. Its the same with modern Deadpool, twisted metal, etc. I hate the were purposely making this terrible attempts at comedy.

granted this an attempt at being earnest and heartbreaking, but the end result is the same. I understand the context of the full scene; its just not endearing any of the characters in it.

I own the fucking game. Its a scene where Yuna is realizing that this is the last time shell see a place because she plans to die, and Tidus trying to cheer her up with essentially a fake smile. Then his attempt is so bad it does create levity for Yuna. Its part of their romance/endears him to her. And, if I remember correctly, tragic because tidus doesnt even know Yuna plans on dying yet. So he hasnt fully grasped his/her own sacrifice yet.
