This. I used to get so triggered when people would use it to shit on the game or dubs in general. He was being dumb trying to make Yuna feel better. It was ALWAYS obvious.

The cast of Final Fantasy X were mostly if not all experienced cartoon voice actors. And I will admit this wasn't their best work. I don't know if it was because they weren't used to a script translated from Japanese or if the voice director wasn't the best. However I still think it was good for when it came out.

It's still cringey unrealistic dialogue. Just because they're trying to sound over the top doesn't make it less poorly scripted, no one speaks that way.

And no, intending to be cringey and stupid doesn't justify it being such. The movie Thankskilling is meant to be a piece of shit but that doesn't make it suddenly good.

I always interpreted the scene as Tidus trying to force a fake laugh, and never thought the scene was acted poorly.

He is litterly talking about the time He was a blitzball star. The stuff with his parents effected him and his psyce. He is saying when he was around people he had to put on a face. The story of Yuna had the possible ending of her dying to Sin. He's telling her that the rest of the Journey she should do that. The laugh was him trying to get this across. That's pretty much it. Case closed.

Sure it had bad lip synching and some weird lines

But the acting? Its near 25 years later and its STILL better than 99% of games

Tara Strong, John DiMaggio, JAT. These are GOAT tier VAs

Even Hedy Burress who was inexperienced as balls gave a decent performance

as has been said its clear the issues where just these VAS where not use to doing a dub of japanese work when they did FFX and even then the performances are fine

massive improvement is found even in the direct sequel

we have so many VAs today who grew up wanting to do voice acting for anime and most do amazing

its easy to forget back then people did not have experience with this it was alot of on the job learning
