Why are you people talking about sodas? TC said coke with a lowercase C. Grammatically that references cocaine. If they were talking about a beverage they wouldve typed Coke.

I would rather have no drink over regular bottle/can Coke but I enjoy McD's fountain version with the meal, so it's a default yes for me.

Generally fountain drinks taste better than canned or bottled, but I never thought McDonald's coke tasted better than any other restaurant's.

When a soda fountain tastes different, or "better", than other varieties, you're probably tasting mold.
It shouldn't taste much different, unless you have a fine palette. Things do taste different whether it's from a can, bottle or fountain, but at those places, it tastes different because it's dirty. You ever see people clean those spouts? It's such a low priority in a lot places that it has to get bad before it actually gets cleaned.
I've worked around quite a few fountains in my life, and only ONE was cleaned regularly and this was a very efficient, deep cleaning maintenance person.

It's similar to how people love the smell of old books. What that smell is, is dust, mildew, mold and other old things.

Reading this topics title made me think of a funny story. Well, a friend of mine was wanting to buy some cocaine, but his dealer would only meet him at a McDonalds that was like 30 minutes away. So, he gets an Uber. My friend and his Uber driver pass by a McDonalds that is just minutes from my friends house. The Uber driver asks: Why dont I just drop you off at this one? to which my friend responds: The big macs taste better at this other one that is 30 minutes away.

I dunno if they still do this but McDonald's and Burger King had a thin layer of wax on the inside of the cups that got inside and flavored the soda differently.

Gave up eating out completely in 2017 but the idea that they had a special formula just for them has been debunked many times. However they do get their stuff in steel tanks that protects it from light/heat and so on and they follow the Coke guidelines to make sure the proper level of syrup/water. Most of their locations are pretty anal about properly cleaning the system really well too but that goes for all of their soda, not just Coke. Some people believe the pre filtered water and chilled ingredients help as well.

So while I think there is merit to them having a good level of Coke it has nothing to do with it being some special formula just for McDonalds.

I will also say ignoring Coke for a moment if you are ever in a real A&W and you are a Root Beer fan getting it on tap from a real keg in a frosted real glass mug is leaps and bounds better than in any other form. My personal favorite root beer in 1919 Root Beer and you can get that in some places where I'm from on tap from a keg and it is a game changer.

They add a small bit more of syrup to compensate for ice melting. That's literally all there is to it.

It's good for fast food soft drinks, although Wendy's coke is pretty good too.

McDonalds has the best ketchup for sure.

It tastes different because it is different. Fountain soda is actually delivered in syrup form, meant to blend with water and melting ice. The ratio isn't perfect match, so you're getting a higher ratio of syrup to water.

Also different chains literally pay pop manufacturers for slightly different syrup mixes, OR they calibrate their machines differently. Can't remember which it is, but it's a real thing.

I live in the middle of cornfields and cow pastures of the Midwest and we still have them here and there around here. It's like time has stood still here for decades sometimes. People can view that as good or bad.

I liked A&W because it was a nice change of pace from the typical McDonalds type options and they did in fact have pretty good burgers. The other bonus was you could get onion rings. Not enough fast food places offered onion rings in my opinions. Always fries. And if you are just going to have fries at least be like Culver's and offer a chili cheese version to elevate them.

So yeah before I had to give up gluten I loved I could get a quality burger, onion rings as an option, and a root beer on tap from a frosted glass mug. Still just fast food but felt like a step up. I also liked you could order from your vehicle and they still had the carp hop waitresses like in the old days.
