I tried the network playtest and it sucked imo. The controls felt off, the track designs felt sterile, the world switching mechanic got old after the second time, and the items/weapons were confusing and had horrible cues to let you know when you could avoid them. My theory is that Sonic Team has (most) hands on deck for Frontiers 2 and they pushed out Shadow Generations + CrossWorlds as low-risk ways to bridge the gap between major releases.

The one thing I give CrossWorlds credit for is that for a UE5 game it's really well optimized. My PC had no issues running it at 60FPS/1440p.

Lately, Sonic fans have taken control of the influencer market, and have now been running campaigns to make mid Sonic games seem like 10/10's. They are even trying to gaslight us into believing '06 is a good game with "just a few flaws" as if people just didn't know they were secretly having fun playing it back in the day and that the hate was become people had a vendetta against him.

Sonic games still lack the polish a truly great game needs; Sonic fans just now are the "reviewers" and the "content creators" in charge of public opinion now, so we have to continue lying to ourselves that these games are "goated" when we all are really yearning for something better.

I was growing soft on Sonic these last few years, but he doesn't deserve it. His movies are ashamed to be himself (it took 3 movies for it to somewhat start feeling like a video-game movie, and people act like that's a great thing), he tries to play as some underdog when he's just a big dog actively choosing to walk on 3 legs, and he always is needing to be glazed up (seriously, DC, have some respect for yourself, you don't need to constantly cowtow in crossovers. That's not the DC I knew) because his fans think "power" is a substitute for good, fun times, yet despite being the supposed "fastest thing alive" he's constantly chasing the red plumber, never being able to quite catch up.

In conclusion, Mario >>>>>>>>>>>>> Sonic. There is no war because Mario stomped that ugly rodent into obscurity and shame all the way back in the 90's.

I have no problems with the controls, I did have to experiment a bit with finding the right racer/car combo though. Sounds like they made a huge mistake in severely restricting your choices in the demo.

The game clearly lacks the polish that Mario Kart does (such as the lack of voice acting for some characters), but I find the actual racing and most of the tracks to be really fun so I don't really mind that.

This is pretty much my thoughts too. It's not as polished, and it took some time for me to get adjusted to the game, but I'm still having a lot of fun with it. Granted, I never played any of the previous Sonic racing games, so I can't comment on those comparisons or the people saying this one is a step down. Maybe they're right. But I'm playing this game, and this game is really fun so far.

If you can, play Transformed. You'll notice a night and day difference between these two games. Similar concept but two very different games.

Ngl if you got fooled into thinking a Sonic game would be good in 2025 then that's entirely on you

Ive only seen videos but it looked like a discount sonic racers transformed in every possible way.

Just tried the demo. It's fine I guess. Even with the alternate paths, it doesn't feel like you're doing as much or making as many decisions as in Mario Kart and CTR. The tracks are narrow and the items hit you or they don't, largely without regard to anything you do.

the best thing i can say about it is it actually succeeds at feeling like an arcade-y racer

but the drifting feels lame, the courses aren't very interesting and don't have fun shortcuts. if nintendo didn't fumble tremendously and fall for the open world meme Mario Kart World would be 10 times the game this is however

Granted I only played the demo for 45 minutes and there's only 3 to 4 available characters and limited number of vehicles to choose from but I don't think it's that good.

Courses leave a lot to be desired too.
It's not nearly as good as people and reviewers are making it out to be.

The main things holding it back from being on par with Mario Kart is the steering, controls and drifting.
It's not worth $70 especially because the devs were aware of the feedback on controls and steering yet chose to not tweak that stuff before launch.

Does the demo feature any Extreme Gear? Those control way better than the cars.

I feel like 45 minutes is more than enough time to realize the game doesn't feel good to play so I'm not sure what the issue with the time frame is.
