I'm not really a huge metal fan, per se. And the real problem is that a lot of the metal I do like is when it starts to cross over into other genres, so purists are likely to whine that the band I'm talking about isn't actually metal. Or that they weren't metal at the time in which I like their work. (Like, Alice Cooper is technically metal? But the song I like most from him is "Poison", and I don't think most people would really consider that a "metal" song.) "Mid" era Metallica (ie, around the Black Album) is pretty good. In the early 00s era I tended to go with bands like Disturbed and Godsmack. Black Sabbath has some good songs, but I'm not hugely into their whole catalogue. I like Nightwish, but I like the idea of Nightwish more than I really like the reality of Nightwish. Sadly, if I really had to narrow down what sort of metal appeals to me most, I'm going to piss off a lot of people by saying 80s glam metal. There's just a lot of songs from that era that are just catchy and enjoyable to me even now. Though, my favorite metal band? All things considered, if I'm going to think in terms of which band has brought me the most raw joy in my life... it might be Kick Axe. aka Spectre General. aka... these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_2_5ATvLvs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL782gWvleQ --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... You assume certain things are widely understood even by the lay person because they long ago became fundamental to you. I discovered not long ago that my wife didn't know who Tool was. I played Schism for her thinking surely that song or at least the baseline would be instantly recognizable to anyone who at least listened to the radio at any point in their life. Nope.
