Im really torn between Sonic 2 and RE2.

I don't understand the question.

My favorite thus far is Donkey Kong Country 2.

Pokemon Gold/Silver.

The amount of content added is insane compared to Red/Blue

I'm torn between Soul Calibur 2 and Pokemon Gold/Silver

I feel as far as "gap in quality between the first and second installments" goes it's very difficult to beat that.

Even though its the 3rd game and a prequel Red Dead Redemption II. Red Dead Revolver was completely different than the Redemption games.

RDR2 is my favorite game of all time. Its a masterpiece and a couple small changes from absolute perfection to me. My favorite world ever created and Ive been gaming regularly since 1980.

Red Dead Redemption 2

RDR1 was already amazing and they managed to blow past it for what is not only one of the best sequels but one of the best games of all time.

Someone else already said it, but DKC2. I would also say Tropical Freeze counts. Both perfectly built upon and perfected the formula of their predecessors

Fuckin good as one too. This and melee are the top two contenders I think.

It's gotta be SF2. It completely eclipses the original, defines a genre, and still sees play in various updated rereleases to this very day.

I'm surprised so few people are going with Street Fighter II. You see people talking about and playing the original Resident Evil, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Donkey Kong Country, and Metal Gear Solid. Who the hell talks about or plays the original Street Fighter?

It's kind of a weird question because for video games sequels are usually better. You are going to be hard pressed to find someone who thinks the first Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Castlevania, MegaMan, etc. game is the best one. So it sort of turns into a "what's the best game" topic. So I am going to approach it instead as game that improved the most on its predecessor. In which case Street Fighter II wins by a landslide. From a barely playable janky tech demo of a game to a still loved and played revolution of a game that to this day is the basis for every game in the genre.

Ace Attorney Investigations 2

Street Fighter 2 hands down.

SF1 was pretty garbage and a very forgettable game. If it wasn't for being the predecessor to SF2, nobody would even be aware of its existence.

SF2 pretty much birthed the fighting game genre and practically reignited the arcade scene all on its own and is pretty much one of the most influential titles in gaming.

Tactics Ogre.

Sly Cooper is a mediocre platformer. Sly 2: Band of Thieves is one of the best video games ever made.

baldur's gate 2 or half-life 2.

SFII is the answer, though Uncharted 2 could be for an already worthy part 1.

If we're doing any sequel, it's GTA III.

If we're talking direct sequel it's gotta be Resident Evil 2 for me. It took everything the original game did and improved on it. It was a sublime game in 1998.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver also did the same. So that is up there too and the story telling at that time was something else.

Indirect has to be Final Fantasy VII, best game ever made for me.

Mass Effect 2. Works so well as a sequel, in the ways it expands the setting and brings back characters. Plus, judging from the popularity of it compared to the first game, you could enjoy it without having played the first. And that's ignoring the quality of the game itself, which earned it the place of being one of the highest rated games of all time.

I just think it's a near perfect continuation. It does a lot more than being just "the next mass effect game".

My first thought was Trails in the Sky 2nd. 1st literally ends on a cliffhanger setting up what turns out to be one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and 2nd can only reach those heights *because* it's a sequel.

Grand Theft Auto 3 in terms of being a revolutionary game and the jump from 2D to 3D.
