I have a goal of beating 20 games this year. I'm only at 13.

What are some good retro games that can be beaten in a couple of days, or even a few hours?

Even the rpgs aren't that long.

While they aren't retro I absolutely need to recommend the Trine games. Gorgeous art style and fun gameplay to them. Plain and simple no nonsense gameplay games. After enjoying Trine 1 I had Trine 2 in my PS library for the last 14 years and just recently finally played it and it reminded me how much I love that series.

Next of Kin is a game that can be beat in less than two hours.

it's a pixelated adventure game.

Freedom Planet 1 can be completed in a couple of hours, especially if you play Adventure mode (skips all cutscenes).

Some NES games that arent very difficult that can be beaten quickly, even for first timers:

Ducktales
Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers
Contra (with the Konami code)
Jaws

Also, you might be able to beat Rygar within a few hours. I can beat it in like 40 minutes, but I know where to go and what to expect. The exploration is what will take you the longest.

if you haven't played them, Max Payne 2 and Prince of Persia Sands of Time are also really short, and really good.

Also I realize Mouthwashing isn't really retro but it's artstyle invokes the feeling

Gameboy games can be pretty short, off the top of my head, these games take about an hour to play through.

Any of the pixel remastsers can be finished in a few days. Thats 6 right there. There was a time I could finish 6 in 2 days.

Splatterhouse (arcade/TG16) and be beaten in about 20-30 min if you're good at it.

Rez is prolly a bit knewer than what you're asking, but the whole thing is beatable in under two hours.

There's a definition of retro that means new things that are intentionally designed to look like old things (usually 1960s-1980s)

I think if talking about actually old things the term might be vintage or classic

You can also beat Way of the Samurai (???) on PS2 by just walking down the road and ignoring all the problems. It won't feel like you beat it, but if you just wanna say you beat it...why not?

yeah, that's like calling an intentionally monochromatic student film "retro" ... I don't think anyone does that.

Generally retro just means 20 years ago or older.

So if you are playing 2 hours a days, that's 6 and a half days, which is more than a couple of days, thus why I said "maybe".

That's the original definition of retro. Using it for things that are actually old is the newer definition.

The first Metal Slug game was released in 1996. It more than meets the definition of "Retro".

Now I feel old lol.

There's a Clue game for PC you can beat in under two seconds if you just randomly guess a suspect, murder weapon, and murder location and just so happen to be right.

A couple of new ones for me this year that we're relatively short and easy - Garfield and His Nine Lives (GBA), free lives in every level, and they will come back even if you lose a life, so you could repeat until you get it if you're having difficulty. There is a Donald Duck game for GBA that I finished for the first time as well. Not too bad overall, I just can't remember it's full title. Lots of lives to be had, and saves after every level including your lives, so if you use a password and use up all your lives, just enter the password again to get all those lives back.

Oh also Gex remastered that's like three games in one. I can't wait to play it myself :/
