Sounds about how long our cat was gone last time she got it... She came back soon after... Pregnant but at least she came home

One of mine used to leave for weeks at a time. No telling how many other houses it lived at.

I remember one person getting their cat to come back from being lost by going outside and shaking their food bag. You could try that or opening a can if they don't eat dry food.

Hoping he finds his way home safely. I've never had a cat of my own but I know how important they are to us.

Yeah hanging out with cheat-family would be my guess too. Sometimes they are convinced that a well-groomed, well-loved, COLLARED cat is a poor homeless stray and they shut it in the house though, and that's it. Then you see the cat on r/CatDistributionSystem like wtf

Is your cat an indoor cat or an indoor/outdoor cat that just hasn't come home?

If it's the former I would definitely set out their litter box and blankets they like to lay on. Something to get their smell out there as they might not inherently know the path back. Also periodically calling for them throughout the day can help as cats mostly identify their humans by sound and smell.

Sometimes all you can do is wait. It's never happened to me but my partner and other friends have had cats go missing for weeks just for them to mysteriously pop right back up like nothing happened.

Had a cat come back after 3 weeks when I was a kid. They're tough and can take care of themselves better than any other animal.

Hope yours returns safe and sound.

leave food out and hope. only thing you can really do. last time my cat bolted out the door i spent the night periodically checking my door cam for the little bitch, spotted her sitting on the railing at 3am and when i opened the door she trotted on in like nothing had happened absolutely covered in all the random crap she'd been rolling around in.

My friend had their cat sneak out for 2 weeks. She came back a lot more battle-hardened and less skittish.

Just leave out food and call your local animal rescues and shelters just in case.

If you need to set up a trap, you do you.

My uncle's cat went missing once. Someone down the street ended up finding her in their crawlspace. It seems she went in when the door was open and got trapped in there. Once they found her, she was a little shaken up but otherwise she was fine.

My cat can't stand it but my dogs don't care. I've known dogs that like it and get right up to their owner's mouth to deliberately inhale smoke when their owner exhales.

Could be as simple as personal preference. Or exposure to smoke at an early age desensitizing some cats/dogs. I've also known dogs that didn't like it. Idk, animals are weird.

Really hoping that they come back home soon.

I know this feeling. When I moved to my friends house to take care of her. I had a male and a spayed female. I didnt have a crate. Never needed one. I went to take to her to the van up close near the gate. A loud car drives by and she jumps out of my arms. She Ran under house. I called and called for hours. Never came out. I went to get a crate for the male loaded him up and got him. For 2 weeks I would look for her at the house everyday. Never showed up. Put out signs and posted on online that she was lost. She was 15y old in farm country. I hope she was found. Its unlikely she would be alive still.

My sympathy, but for what its worth there is hope if you have a tracker chip. My kitty was found a whole week later. Really bad week, but i was relieved when we got her back.

I'm hoping for the best.

birds too

birds are sensitive to smoke in any form, has to do with their respiratory system. dont smoke around your pet birds.

So yeah, always hope for the best. Cats are clever.

Not a cat, but my parents' dog slipped the leash one night and outran us in the dark. Like a month later, I heard th neighbor's dog barking. Opened the front door and she was sitting on the porch like nothing had happened. She's still kicking to this day.

So ther s always hope.

Oh, that's awful. I hope you find your kitty. I know how awful it is to have a cat never come home. Happened to my first cat, unfortunately.

I dunno how leaving a trail of litter outside would fare?
