I saw the Amazon prices for the commander decks finally hit msrp, so I have ordered the FFX deck

Still have not found any packs in stores near me

When did magic start doing this weird two-tier play/collector booster pack bullshit and printing 5 different art/frame/foil versions of the same card in one set like yu-gi-oh? I haven't played since they switched to the neomodern frame.

Collector boosters started with Thrones of Eldraine back in 2019 (IIRC), the multi-art thing started in Antiquities back in 1994.

Yes, but as what you're talking about is effectively just the start of collector boosters in the first place (unless something like the Kaladesh inventions counts for you) that's the easy one to point to.

Do the commander decks have a set, er, set of cards? Like you know which cards are in the pack, like a pokemon card set? The only randomness being rarity of said cards, if even that?

The commander decks are pre made decks, so you know exactly what you will get. They do include a "Sample Collector Booster Pack" which is like 2 random cards with a special art

Nice, that Cloud is a very good get. Even on its own, but foil especially.

I'm holding off on buying any more singles for now. With Edge of Eternities out, prices seem to be dropping, for some cards heavily. The place I like to buy from is slow to lower prices to be market values though, so I need to give it some time to stabilize.

I'm at a point where I'm like 40 cards away? And what I'm using for a "wishlist" for that tells me the cost for those is about $1,000.

I was able to get it for like, 100 bucks through Walmart. I wasnt going to pay 150 for it that it goes for at some of these TCG sites, and it was impossible to get one through Target, because they go for like 45 there.
And yes RIP to my wallet.
Ive always been a huge fan of MTG and FF, and got into both of them in 1998, so this crossover is kinda sentimental to me.

I like spiderman, but Im not really interested in his crossover.

Bought a binder today to put the commander decks into. I liked them in their boxes, but being able to flip through all of them side by side is way nicer.

Now I had a binder for the commander decks, and a larger binder for everything else.

A word of caution about binders - make 100% sure the pages are acid free or there can be damage to the cards over time.

If they aren't acid free you need to sleeve the cards before storing them in the binder

Also use of the binder can physically damage the cards if not done correctly

Anyone who puts their collection in ring binders instead of binded soft back side loaders, they don't cherish their collection.

What's a binded soft back side loader?

That's what I have. Not a ring binder or anything.

Well that conversation is a frustrating capstone to a difficult week. I'd never have thought the binders could fuck up the cards. I'll have to get a new one but I'll have to get a bigger one. I'd also still want a 3x3 so I don't have to redo my organization.

Ugh. Maybe transferring the cards over to the new binder will be a bit of catharsis.

Where do you actually even buy these?

I checked out the card section at Target and they had like one set of MTG cards, didn't see where they'd have FF cards.

TCGPlayer (or CardMarket, if you're European) are the big two. At least as far as singles/normal packs are concerned. Boxes are a bit more tricky as the supply has pretty much died off, especially for Collector Boosters. You can also try looking up your local game stores as they are far more likely to actually have product compared to retail stores (for perspective the Target near me got less than a fourth the product of my LGS despite the fact that the LGS in question is about the size of a single Target aisle).

I got all my stuff on Amazon, but it's mainly just upcharged resellers now.

None of the local stores around me have them.

I've been looking into the card albums.

First looked at the one that I originally got and the motivations behind the recommendations. It's a top loader but it's also got a zipper and I store it flat instead of upright, so the dust concerns don't really matter. But I can tell looking at it that the 3-ring portion is slightly altering the way they sit when it's open, but laying flat and closed it seems to be fine. More importantly though, the sleeves are PVC, which is what absolutely ruins cards stored in it long-term.

So no matter what, I have to replace it.

Looking at the bound pages instead of the 3-ring though, it seems like they're all an opaque back. Are there any that are clear through to the other side of the page so that you can see the reverse side of cards with flips? Otherwise I might be stuck with 3 ring regardless and just have to be careful about how I store it.

If you do end up using a ring binder, make sure you use a D-ring, and get one big enough that the pages all lie flat when full. There's still some risk of damage, but that should help minimize it.

Playing a proxy Sephiroth deck currently.

I have a copy of every surge foil and every through the ages foil. Cost a fucking fortune but these cards mean so much to me.

Made a completely blinged out Cloud, Ex Soldier and Y'shtola Nights blessed. Blinged out Terra, Herald of Hope and an FFXIV themed Wandering Minstrel deck. And most of the rest of the playable cards got slotted into other decks.

Ive been playing magic for 25 years and Final Fantasy is my favorite game series of all time so its like a perfect storm.
