As someone who's never cared once about DMC it's always been trash and the way the fanbase gets so upset when it's slightly different trash is hilarious to me.

I'm also not the greatest enjoyer of DMC either, so how the show changed the lore doesn't bother me too much. My biggest gripe though is they had a character that spoke almost exclusively in expletives and then they made the show an allegory for the War on Terror for some strange reason.

This Adi seems like a weirdo obsessed with the smell of his own farts. He makes weird shit and calls himself a genius for it.

So DMC 3 which was the tone they seemed to be aiming for. Also the games have...shit stories? I do like 4s the best though. Characters werent developed much, its always big demon appears we gotta stop him. DmC DID TRY to fix this, but result was eh.

Is this guy going to be the next Uwe Boll or something? And he's gonna go on an ego trip of throwing money into adapting every popular video game (or in this case, anime as well) out there, and we're all going to be wishing he'd stop, because the quality stinks?

I've been thinking about checking out that show for some time. I don't know if I should play any of the games or not, before watching the show.

DMCs Limp Bizkit opening had me excited when they first released it. I thought they nailed the tone and clearly understood the assignment. Then the show came out.

It really sounds like Adi got too high off of his own success with the Castlevania series and is pretty much acting like a self-important asshole who wants to be "the guy who saved dead franchises." He said in a podcast interview once (joking or serious I couldn't really tell) where he wanted his DMC adaptation to save the franchise and got mad when DMCV got announced and then sold well.

I don't even think he was even that involved with Castlevania in the creative process. Shankar's the type of "Producer" who throws a lot of money at stuff for his name on it while not actually contributing anything. Which is kind of what he did with movies like Dredd.

DMC is what happens when he actually takes a role. He's just an arrogant dickhead.

And seriously, doing this for Berserk after Miura died is a special level of tasteless.

You don't need to, but it both hurts and helps your appreciation of the events in the shows. On their own the shows are really good with complex themes and characters. Devil May Cry also had an anime this year and again, on it's own it's actually really good. Some die hard fans do not like the changing of side characters and game established lore, but this doesn't really affect the quality of the show.

I kind of like some of this guy's stuff but fuck me is he a dickhead

I think it's not just Castlevania, he's probably gradually gotten his head in his ass with each project. Producing critically acclaimed movies like The Grey and then Dredd while he was still in his 20s probably set it in motion.

Doing a Duke Nukem adaptation at this point seems kind of funny to me because does anyone actually give a shit about Duke Nukem anymore? I never really saw the appeal to begin, but it's been like 20+ years since series has had an even half-decent entry, and is most recently known for a massive disappointment fifteen years in the making.

The show borrows elements from the games but is it's own entity. Only thing you'd miss out on is character names, specific item names, and when they very occasionally bust out select known popular themes during a fight.

Symphony of the Night is always a good starting point as it's the origin for the game term "Metroidvania". The Netflix show borrows from Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Curse of Darkness, and Symphony of the Night (and possibly others but that's as far as I remember).

He's inspired by 80s action heroes and is a mish-mash of references, but isn't inherently a parody or a punching bag for them.

Castlevania is a top tier show.

Nocturne is....ok. It having to follow the original did it no favors but I still thought it was pretty good.
