I missed this whole thing and only have a few minutes this morning to poke around the video.

Very first thought is that Mario Kart World doesn't look like an upgrade over 8 at all. I'm about as far from a graphics guy as a gamer can get, but the Switch was already underpowered and it's coming up on a decade between Nintendo consoles, so I expected a more noticeable visual "pop" for the first unveil. Kinda disappointing.

what about the game prices

curious if they will go to 70 like the other consoles + TotK

Okay Wii U, but that barely feels like it counts

Seeing reports this is 430 with Mario Kart....yeah that's basically worst case scenario.

The rest so far are 70. They are pushing people to the bundle which has Mario Kart World for $50 extra, 40 for EU and 35 in the UK. I do worry that this will set a trend for their biggest games in the future though.

They are pushing people away from the console with even one $80 game. I know they have a lot of selling points but this is outrageous.

Possibly, but with Nintendo its the worst given how little their first party stuff goes on comparable sales to PS/Xbox titles. $70 already feels too high imo

I can't stress enough how much Blodbrone saved this whole thing. Switch games not natively running better on Switch 2 was a deal breaker for me, the fact that.trhye could recover from that is patently absurd, but they found a way.

256 GB of internal storage was pretty much what I expected before the Direct started.

Get ready for this hot take, but "Bloodborne 2" looks hideous. Not only less visually impressive than the first game despite the DECADE of time between the two, but also an ugly mishmash of disjointed Victorian, Steampunk, and Fantasy styles that really don't fit together.

Overall... I'm glad Nintendo is encouraging a healthy work-life balance for their employees, because they really are just chillin over there.

Apparently the Switch 2 is a lot cheaper in Japan and will be region locked. Pretty scummy move to make the rest of us pay more just because their home region has a weak currency currently.

No, that is just part of the "priority" clause:

"Once invitation emails have been sent to all registrants meeting the priority criteria, invitations will be sent to remaining eligible registrants on a first-come, first-served basis."

Being elligible just requires US/Canada and being 18+. You'll just get a slower invitation if you don't fit the priority above.

this is extremely normal. That's why Steam doesn't let you gift to other regions if the price difference is too large because it's priced relative to the region

Also exchange rate is a bad way to judge the price anyway. It costs about 50,000 yen which was around $500 pre-pandemic. Now it converts to like $334 but relative to people's salaries and how much stuff costs it's still the equivalent of like $500 for people who actually live here

The Japan thing is understandable because of what happened with the PS5 and Xbox Series, people in Japan couldnt buy those platforms because they were all getting bought up to be sold for a profit abroad. Annoying for non-native Japanese speakers living there however.

Breath of the Wild for Switch 2 its going to be $70 isnt it >_>

Well regardless it's an impressive system but too much for what i'd play on it. If this is what Nintendo are charging now when they're meant to be the cheaper option i hate to see what Sony cook up with the PS6.
