Excellent. I mean, you would HOPE that the premier of a new Gundam would be among if not the best premiers of a season, but I'm happy it was. So excited for more of this, adore how it looks and already loving the leads.

Well this certainly doesn't shy away from it's setup! Didn't expect it to be so blunt, usually shows like this just imply.

One of the best primers so far, though I struggle to see how this will make a full season. I adore it, though. Doorman Robot character of the season.

Your on the cusp of passing the 2003 series and then it's basically full octane rest of the way. Truly one of the greatest of all time.

That's not really accurate.

What the OG anime did was adapt the manga faithfully until it was caught up (the manga was ongoing), and then it makes up the story after that for the second half. The same story as the manga for like twenty something episodes, and then it just becomes entirely different.

Brotherhood was created after the manga was done, so it's a full canonical adaptation. But it does speed through the first half of the story, since it was already done before. I think that makes it slightly worse in the beginning, but still obviously the correct choice overall.

It's annoying but the best way to watch is to start with the original, then switch to Brotherhood.

finished Darling in the FranXX and yeah... certainly a mid series, while there were a few great moments (and many a "darling~" activated my neurons) yeah, overally just not that good. And that last stretch of episodes really doesn't do itself any favours. Wouldn't be a series I recommend to people.

I can see why Zero Two was the pre-eminent waifu on the internet for some time following the show's release though.

Also (spoilers for the video game "Final Fantasy VIII" along with the show) I'm sure the trope of characters having forgotten previous meetings was a trope before FF8 but I'll always call it "same orphanage", and can't recall another example of it in media before this show, so couldn't believe the show ended up going down that route, lol.

Anyways, now that that's done, putting off watching Frieren (again) until after my upcoming vacation so gonna fit in a one-cour show before I go. Checking my list of what I have that fits for 13 or fewer eps which I haven't watched yet:

Big Order
Hellsing Ultimate
Ito Junji - Collection
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Prison School

Kabaneri's the one I'm most interested in watching out of that list which probably means I shouldn't. Ito Junji Collection I don't even know why I picked up, heard it's truly awful. Maybe I'll just knock out Big Order so I can listen to the OP like 8 or 9 times, lol.

Prison School is by far the best of those and the one I would most recommend.

Big Order is usually considered one of the worst anime ever - are you planning to watch it ironically?

Hellsing Ultimate rocks and is just as good as Prison School, but the episodes are double length, so I'm not sure you have time for it.

Kabaneri has a great start, but the last few episodes are much worse than the last few episodes of Franxx. Still worth watching for the great animation and music though imo. One of the best soundtracks in any anime.

Ito Junji Collection is horrible.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is boring, just watch the gif of the girl with her muscles pulling the handle on repeat for a couple hours and that's the best experience you can get.

Prison School...I don't like it at all, some people think it's a fun enough series.

I dunno man you've got a bummer of a list here lol. If you listed Big Order first because it's what interested you most, then just watch Future Diary.

It's alphabetical order, and hey all the good stuff is 2 or more cours, what can I say!! I heard the Ito Junji Collection was awful so it's destined to be on the backlog forever but I was disappointed to learn that Uzumaki apparently is terrible after the first episode too. My dream of a Hellstar Remina adaptation remains forever out of reach...

lol, first I heard of its quality (or lack thereof) - I only have it because I was obsessed with the OP song for it way back when, and iirc my cursory review of the plot had it sounding like a Code Geass knockoff so I figured why not add it to the collection. One of the worst ever, eh... that may actually be the perfect show to watch before I watch Frieren then, lol.

I liked Kabaneri, but it does go in a weird direction at the last few episodes. It's not enough to derail the series completely though.

Hellsing Ultimate boils down to, "Like watching Alucard and Seras kill things while a Nazi sits in a fucking chair doing nothing?" So, you're here to watch Alucard and Seras kill Nazis. I honestly preferred OG, but I'm the weirdo who enjoys FMA 2003's pacing over Brotherhood's.

The Major's speech in Hellsing Ultimate is one of the best monologues in anime, and it kind of annoys me that the Abridged version is what people know more these days.

I hate characters who just sit in chairs and act menacing and let other people do their work.

Started the new season of Black Butler. Good so far, with some good comedy.
