Nobody wanted to hear that Biden shouldn't make a bid for reelection. Why did it take big donors calling up Chuck and Nancy for people to finally wake up?

I thought people didn't want Biden to run for reelection in the first place. A better question would be, why did big donors wait until the 11th hour to speak up?

*Looks at Trump's tax breaks for the wealthy*

Oh.

Well to be fair for Dem donors it's more like pushing for the establishment.

Unless there's data you can share which proves otherwise, Gaza was completely irrelevant to the swing states which cost Kamala the election. Everything points to concerns over "the economy" and immigration. Support for Ukraine, abortion, and trans rights had a bigger impact than Gaza, but because it was the one issue Democrats were split on all the ire is directed towards the inconsequential number of protest votes from California, New York, and a single district in Michigan.

On the topic of accountability, people were sounding the alarm since 2021 and labeled "doomers" for it. Nobody wanted to take the idea that Trump would be running again seriously. Nobody wanted to believe that people were still willing to overwhelmingly vote for him. Nobody wanted to listen to the polls that showed Democrats were in big trouble. Nobody wanted to hear that Biden shouldn't make a bid for reelection. Why did it take big donors calling up Chuck and Nancy for people to finally wake up?

I say this not to excuse anyone who did decide to not vote for Kamala solely because of Gaza, I say it because Democrats have learned absolutely nothing about why they keep losing elections.
This.

Derailing every topic about Israel, bashing people who criticized Biden/Kamala, at this point is not helpful.

There's not really anything we as individuals can actually do about what is going on in Israel. Trump and his admin is currently destroying the US government and that's going to be a more important issue for US citizens to deal with than Gaza.

The pro-palestine crowd made their mistake on indirectly supporting Trump and refuse to accept any responsibility.

well the mayor of Dearborn Heights is. He helped his community fall for Trump hook line and sinker

https://www.michiganpublic.org/podcast/stateside/2025-03-13/stateside-podcast-trump-turns-to-michigan-for-u-s-ambassadors

In the midst of nominating U.S. ambassadors to foreign nations, President Donald Trump looked to two of Michigans mayors.
Trump announced last Friday that he nominated Amer Ghalib, current mayor of Hamtramck, to serve as ambassador to Kuwait. He announced on Tuesday that Dearborn Heights mayor Bill Bazzi is his pick for ambassador to Tunisia.
Both these men endorsed Trumps recent presidential campaign. Niraj Warikoo, a Detroit Free Press reporter, joined Stateside to discuss the two nominees' political backgrounds.
Hamtramck spans about two square miles. The city is now home to the highest percentage of immigrants among all cities in Michigan. The city was once majority Polish, but today, many residents have roots in Yemen and Bangladesh. Now, Ghalib serves as Hamtramcks first non-Polish mayor.
Before running for mayor, Ghalib attended Ross Universitys medical school in 2021, but it is disputed whether or not he graduated with a medical degree, Warikoo said. Ghalib was also active in issues related to Yemen, and as part of the Sunni community, Ghalib frequently meets with mosque leaders.
In his mayoral campaign, Ghalib supported a ban on flying LGBTQ, religious, ethnic and political flags on city government property. He also supported increasing diversity in City Hall. Warikoo noted that Ghalib has since followed through on both of those promises.
Ghalib received pushback from Hamtramcks LGBTQ community after city council voted on the flag ban in 2023, Warikoo said.
They spoke out at city council meetings because there is an LGBTQ presence in Hamtramck, Warikoo said. It's been there for years. One thing that people say in defense of the conservatives in Hamtramck is that other cities took similar moves, but they didn't get as much as of a national outrage.
Ghalib once referred to Saddam Hussein, who invaded Kuwait in 1990, as a martyr, according to the conservative Middle East Forum.
"I'm not sure if he's changed his views, Warikoo said. I think he has strong views about Yemen. And according to him, the intervention of the West sometimes has caused problems in the Arab world. It is the context in which he was talking about things like that, but how it may affect his relation with Kuwait, I'm not sure.
Nominations for ambassador require Senate confirmation. If Ghalib is confirmed and leaves Hamtramck, the next mayor of the city would be Hamtramck Mayor Pro Tem Khalil Refai.
Bazzi has served as the mayor of Dearborn Heights since January 2021 when he was elected with 72% of the vote. He immigrated to the U.S. from Lebanon at 10 years old, and since graduated from Fordham School. Before serving as mayor, Bazzi served in the U.S. Marines and worked for Ford Motor Company, Warikoo said.
Warikoo highlighted some of the tensions in Dearborn Heights' city leadership. In December, Bazzi appointed the first Arab-American and Muslim police chief in Dearborn Heights after some in the community voiced their desire for greater Arab American representation in the police department and in City Hall. Just a few weeks ago, however, the police chief was allegedly forced out and replaced.
Some white police officers also filed a lawsuit alleging bias against white people by Arab American city council members.
In Dearborn Heights, theres a concern, Warikoo said. As Arab Americans try to get more political power, they feel that there should be more representation and there's an underrepresentation. The other side says, Well, you have to go by the rules of tenure, and the rules of We were here before and we have a right to be promoted and become police chief.
If Bazzi is confirmed as ambassador to Tunisia and leaves Dearborn Heights, the City Council will vote for the new mayor to replace Bazzi.
Wow, it's SO WEIRD how both of those guys muddled the water for Trump, and now have accepted positions in Trump's cabinet! Just another amazing coincidence in a political career literally groaning at the seams with amazing coincidences!

Boy, you'd think the Dearborn mayor wouldn't want to be in the administration of a man about to flatten Gaza, since it was clearly such a BIG FUCKING DEAL to Mayor Dumbfuck before the election.

But funnily enough, he doesn't seem to care now, almost like

*turns to glare pointedly at the Champions of Gaza*

he never fucking cared about Gaza, isn't it?

So how long did that ceasefire last and how long was it supposed to last?
The ceasefire was announced on 15 January and began four days later.
It had three stages.

Stage one
This officially lasted for 42 days, during which:
  • Hamas released 25 living Israeli hostages and eight dead hostages
  • Israel released about 1,900 Palestinian prisoners and detainees from Gaza
  • Israeli forces left populated areas of Gaza
  • Displaced Palestinians returned to their neighbourhoods
  • Hundreds of aid lorries were allowed into Gaza each day
  • Israeli troops remained in Gaza's border areas, including the southern Philadelphi Corridor, and left the Netzarim Corridor, a military zone cutting off the north of Gaza from the south
Stage two
Negotiations on the second stage were meant to begin 16 days after the start of stage one - but this did not happen. Like stage one, stage two is also meant to be completed within 42 days.
According to the ceasefire deal, under stage two:
  • A permanent ceasefire will be established
  • Remaining living hostages in Gaza will be exchanged for more Palestinian prisoners
  • Israeli forces will make a complete withdrawal
Stage three
The final part of the agreement would see:
  • The return of all remaining bodies of dead hostages
  • The reconstruction of Gaza, which is expected to take years

Stage 1 ended in March 1, which is when Israel stopped all aids transports from entering Gaza.
Israel started to demand that all remaining hostages, (59 hostages, up to 24 of whom are believed to be alive and at least 35 are presumed dead) to be released before they even start talking about Stage Two, while Hamas said that they will be released once Stage Two starts.

This is a good breakdown. I'll add that most of Phase 1 held until the deadline (the IDF withdrew most of its ground forces, aid flow did briefly resume, and Palestinians were able to return to North Gaza) and then Israel decided not to progress to phase 2. That was an entirely unilateral decision; Hamas upheld what was agreed to up to that point.

Yeah, its obvious in hindsight, but it was obvious even then that a lot of the movement was just a a bunch of foreign interests trying to get trump elected. Once trump got elected, the totally real people living in America suddenly all vanished.

the world is going to seriously crack down on the internet within the next few decades. Governments will not like foreign actors pushing narratives like this. Whether that means the end of vpns, or paid services for every forum, I dont know, but the Wild West era will come to an end eventually. Not saying Trump is better than Harris, he's way worse, but she and her campaign dropped the ball harder an a protest voter in California. Harris only had like 4 months to make a campaign. Most candidates have a year or two at least. Trump has been having rallies for a decade.

She should have distanced herself from Biden but everyone knows if she did that Trump would have just used that to undermine the entire 4 years of Biden's work. And they should have realized republicans were going after tiktok as soon as they stopped talking about banning it. Right wingers figured out they could put out way more disinformation on a platform like that with no fact checking.

They're trying to take over Reddit too. The amount of obvious bots and trolls and AI posts just makes the place worse and worse. You get so many accounts saying that reddit is a liberal echo chamber, but then you just go to the joe rogan sub or whatever and it's 5,000 posts of right wing people agreeing with each other.

Cute, I don't care about your quippy nonsense.

The dems preferred Trump winning than committing to stopping genocide, all there is to it.
Did Harris say she would prefer to work on a ceasefire or help Israel to finish the job?

Hmm I think its more fair to say non-voters cared more about a moral victory than a real victory.

She said she'd want to work on a ceasefire I think, but the question isn't relevant to the main point I made.

And Dems cared more about pleasing capital than winning an election. I'm not saying the non voting crowd is good, I'm saying one has more blood on their hands.

I mean dems. Capital is on the Republicans side, they didn't need to pick between winning and serving capital.
