it depends on how many continents there are

this poll implies there are 7 - North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia/Oceania, Antarctica

But North America and South America are possibly one big continent, Eurasia is possibly one big continent, even Afroeurasia is possibly one big continent

So how many continents are there really?

There are actually 674 continents, but only on alternating Tuesdays with prime number dates.

If you count major tectonic plates as continents, there are 7, but they're not necessarily the same as the traditional 7 continents.

African, Antarctic, Eurasian, Indo-Australian (sometimes considered two separate plates), North American, South American, and Pacific.

There are 15 additional minor tectonic plates: Amurian, Arabian, Burma, Caribbean, Caroline, Cocos, Indian, Nazca, New Hebrides, Okhotsk, Philippine Sea, Scotia, Somali, Sunda, and Yagtze. And there are many smaller microplates, like the Juan de Fuca.

I think the poll results are really sad.

Potentially trillions.

Because you didn't specify only Earth continents. And if we assume that other planets have plate techtonics and large bodies of water that separate smaller land masses, then by definition they would have continents as well.
