Recently had somebody act really surprised that I gave away my old consoles and acting like it was a terrible thing. Prompted me to make this poll.

I have always given away my old consoles and all the games that I had with them. Being doing that since NES days in high school. Gave away to kids in the family or kids of coworkers. I'm not a collector nor was I interested in selling them for money.

I tend to give it away to family members over at the Dominican Republic

Will probably do the same once the Switch 2 gets released with my old Switch

I've regretted selling older systems and eventually bought replacements, such as an NES and SNES. Never know when you're gonna get the itch to play something you haven't played in a long time.

I usually give them away, since I don't go back to using them.

especially if they're backwards compatible.

I need to get them out to play and do so. But its not often. But but, I usually focus on the older console for a couple weeks when it happens, so what vote is this?

Well, by your own admission, you dont play them often. So it depends on how many youve kept.

If they work. I keep them. I trashed my Saturn when I moved because the laser was broke. I still have a working Atari 7800 to my knowledge but I never got the right TV attachment to insure it again still does.

Atari 7800s are way more reliable than any 2600. Miss that Saturn I guess, but what could I do? Kept the good games I had and a Pro Action Replay Plus. I didn't have many. I think my most worthless game was NBA JAM TE and even that I thought was excellent.

Its more about which one. I bring out the PS2 the most.

But the others... PS3 never, but I still have it (kinda a "lost generation" really for that console for devs), I still have a PS4, no X-whatevers, have a PC that can play games but mostly go with indues (Against the Storm is fun right now for me), and despite the Switch being what I play most, I don't play wii, wiiU, or even the cube any time recently. Mind you I don't think I have the cube still.

I did, but my brother claimed all the ones pre-ps3 for himself when he got married. Then my mentally challenged cousin broke 2 of the ones I had left. Dad let some of his friends into my house while I was gone and told them to take whatever they wanted from my stuff. They took my WiiU and a bunch of games.

Then my PS4 started having memory issues, and finally crapped out. Bought PS4 pro and my 11 year old cousin claimed it and now it's not working right either. Ugh.

I've been eyeballing my game collection that I can't play and wondering how much I could get. Really no reason to keep them outside of them being mine and liking to look at them sometimes.

I used to, then I got sick of them taking up so much space while simultaneously needing money quick so sold them all and just turned my laptop into an all-in-one emulator machine to play all my old games on one device, and many of them with enhancements like 4K 60fps support.

That's understandable. I only quoted you because in the early 2000s I just sold a bunch of snes games mostly loose in two bundles. One was the rpg bundle and one was the whatever bundle. Earthbound loose cart probably still costs a little bit and Chrono Trigger? I sold this bundle of 25 games for about 250 dollars. I don't regret that (many things I do). I also had the oversized Earthbound box but I wasn't in the mood to ship that and wound up just giving it to a friend goe free who doesn't like rpgs but loved Earthbound. I believe this still to be true as I chatted him up some years ago.

Funnily enough I kept Paladin's Quest and Inindo:The Way of the Ninja in box complete because I liked them and felt they had little value. Doubt they still do even now.

I've never personally sold a console. My older brother sold our N64, Dreamcast and PS2 when I was younger because he didn't play them (even tho I still did) and that was pretty shitty.

My brother really isn't too bad. He was when he was younger, idolized my dad and imitated him. He did develop that same type of attitude, but not nearly to the degree dad has it. He's still quite selfish, and doesn't care a lot about us, but he's not malicious and deep down I know he loves us.

So, when he said he wanted the game systems as a wedding gift from me to him(I was broke at the time), I said ok. The only one that was his was PS1, but it wasn't a massive loss and I at least got to give him something.

PS2 (two, my brother gave me his)
Xbox 360 (two, since one red ringed)
N64
3DS
SNES (but I was dumb and gave all my games away)

Consoles I don't have any more:
NES
Genesis
PS1 (these were something my older brothers had, I played with them but I don't know what happened to them)
Gameboy
GameGear
Gameboy Color
Gameboy SP (or whatever the one after GBC was)
Gameboy Advance
I also had several laptops but don't know where they went

i sold my snes, gbc and gba and parents sold their nes. then bought another nes and snes. also used to sell my games to buy new ones till i got older and started rebuying a bunch of old 64 and ps1/2 games and then stopped selling stuff unless it's a game i knew i'd never bother playing again like sports games or games that got remasters on newer systems.

nes i haven't played in years. even with a good upscaler it still looks like crap on a 4k tv. snes doesn't look bad but 64 era and newer is mainly what i'll play since they still look good on 4k. i've wanted to buy a crt tv just for it but can't really justify buying one and the used one i got for free from a friend was a 200 pound hunk of junk. i do miss light gun games though.

My brother and I kept most of them (same goes for the portables). Mainly the earlier consoles.

Still have the families' very first NES plus a top-loader NES my brother bought since it read games better (we didn't know about just replacing the connector back then for the original model so my brother just bought a top-loader since it was pretty cheap), still have the original SNES my dad bought for me like 2 weeks after it came out in north america. *It was a get well present because I got hit by a car. Not going to lie, having a SNES that early in it's life perked me right the hell up, lol.*.

Still have the genesis, the sega CD my brother bought for it, the dumb-ass 32X I bought for 20 bucks off clearance from a retail chain called roses. (Even this feels like a rip-off.....virtua racing 32X was straight, but brutal paws of fury on the 32X was friggin' worse than the 16 bit SNES and genesis versions, =/ ).

Still have my gameboy color, original phatty DS, PSP slim, vita version 2, and a new 3DS XL. Still got my wii, wii u, phat PS3 (this thing ylod'd like 3 times.....the 3rd one I have is a replacement I got from sony right before they stopped replacing the NA 60 GB full BC PS3s. I don't even cut it on anymore because I already know its a ticking time-bomb), slim 250 GB xbox 360, gears of war 4 xbox one s, PS4 pro. The original PS2 is also around in the closet.

Consoles and portables I either traded in, sold, straight up died, or got stolen over the years:
Original gameboy (got stolen when I left it in my bookbag in gym in highschool....it kind of hurts because this is the one I got for christmas in like 1989).

PS1. They kept fucking dying, lol. I had 2 of the original models but the spinner piece that holds the disc in place and spins it just fell to pieces. Also they got some sort of shorts. My brother bought his own PSone model (the one that came with the little LCD screen) a little after 2000 so whenever I wanted to play PS1 games It'd mooch his or the PS2.

OG xbox: These things were always dying via the power supply going bad or having a bum disc drive. There were these 3 types of disc drives you could get....a thompson drive, a phillips drive, or a samsung drive. The sammy drive was considered the best 1. The other 2 will end up dying and will stop reading discs eventually. My original xbox got fried via a overnight lightning strike. Lost all my xbox phantasy star online episode 1 and 2 data since this save was attached per xbox live account on that specific xbox. Felt bad.

OG gamecube. Traded it in after I played the hell out of smash melee and gamecube PSO episode 1 and 2. I played later gamecube games like mario kart double dash and tales of symphonia via my brother's own gamecube, but I traded in my own to put it towards a xbox (that died, lol), which I played a shit-ton (until it died, =( ).

OG gameboy advance. Traded it in. I wanted to upgrade to this new fancy gameboy advance that actually has a backlight the SP. Plus its so tiny that is awesome.

GBA SP: Sold mine to my brother when the original phatty DS first came out. I didn't really see the point anymore to own one since the DS could play GBA games. Also the DS had a headphone jack. (GBA SP not having a headphone jack and thus needing 3rd party accessories to use charge port earbuds was annoying).

OG xbox 360. Sold it to a friend of my brother's. As more and more xbox live arcade games started coming out the 20 GB HDD the 360 started off with just wasn't cutting it anymore. I decided to just buy the 250 GB slim model of it mainly for the space, and I liked how you did not need as much cords to use the HDMI cable with this version of the 360 compared to the original.

OG PS4. Traded it in via a generous gamestop upgrade promotion offer towards a PS4 pro. Paid like, 140 dollars out of my pocket for the swap. At the time I thought it was a good deal.

OG 3DS XL. Sold it on ebay. Got a new 3DS XL instead. I really wanted access to those SNES virtual console games. Also monster hunter 4 ultimate had better performance on the new 3DS models. Analog nub.

OG PS5. Traded in towards PS5 pro. The trade-in offer imo was pretty good and was preferable to messing with ebay or facebook marketplace. I wanted high definition FF7 Rebirth tifa armpits in performance mode.

Also the dreamcast. This one wasn't even mine but my brother's, and I killed that shit lmao. I played way too much phantasy star online+phantasy star online version 2 and so the poor thing just straight-up burned out. Wouldn't even cut on anymore one day.

My bro did buy a replacement though since dreamcasts were pretty cheap leading up to the PS2's release.

I don't have any from more than a generation back. The only non-current systems I still own are a 3DS, a Wii U, and an Xbox One. The first 2 are hard-carried by homebrew/emulation capabilities now, and the XB1 is now a glorified media player since I have a Series S to play the same games on.

I was sort of hoping some devs would use the modern tech each console has for motion controls these days to make more plastic gun copy cats and thus we can start blastin' in some sort of new time crisis game or something.
